Kawneer KW050455 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Kawneer KW050455 work on any Adams Rite 8400 concealed panic device, or only certain door sizes?
The KW050455 is configured for a 42 inch wide by 8 foot tall door. Concealed panic components on the Adams Rite 8400 are cut and drilled to the specific door opening, so a part built for a 42 x 8 foot leaf will not serve a narrower or shorter door. Match the door size first, then the device series.
2) Is the KW050455 a complete exit device or just a replacement component?
It is a replacement component, not a whole device. The KW050455 restores function to an existing Adams Rite 8400 Concealed Panic exit device already installed in the door. If the device itself is beyond repair or the door has no concealed vertical rod prep, you need a complete exit device rather than this service part.
3) Is the Kawneer KW050455 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket copy?
It is supplied as an official Kawneer service part, listed under the Kawneer Service Parts feature, for the Adams Rite 8400 Concealed Panic exit device. For aluminum storefront and entrance work where the leaf and the hardware were furnished together by Kawneer, that matters: the service part is built to the original device's fit.
4) How do I identify the right Kawneer exit device service part when ordering?
Order by the Kawneer part number, in this case KW050455, together with the device family and leaf size: Adams Rite 8400 Concealed Panic, 42 inch by 8 foot door. Kawneer service parts for concealed panics are size-specific, so the part number alone with the wrong door size will still get you the wrong length.
5) Can I use the Kawneer KW050455 in an apartment building or school, or is it residential hardware?
It is commercial-grade hardware. The KW050455 is classified for commercial use and is intended for office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential and government buildings, all places where egress hardware sees heavy daily traffic.
