Kawneer KW050468 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the KW050468 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket copy?
It is a factory Kawneer service part, sold under Kawneer's own part number KW050468. That matters on Kawneer entrance systems because the door prep for a concealed device is cut at the factory; a genuine service part drops into that existing prep rather than asking you to modify the door.
2) What is a concealed panic device, and when would I use one instead of a surface mounted exit device?
A concealed panic keeps the latching hardware inside the door rail and stile rather than bolting rods and cases to the face of the door, so the storefront line stays clean while still giving code egress. The tradeoff is that it depends on a door prepped for it. On an aluminum entrance already built for a concealed device, like the Kawneer doors this KW050468 part serves, concealed is the correct replacement. If your door has no internal prep, a surface applied rim or vertical rod device is the practical choice because it mounts to the door face.
3) Is the KW050468 exit device part rated for commercial traffic?
Yes, it is classified as commercial hardware, not residential, and it is the panic device part used on Kawneer entrances in offices, schools, healthcare buildings, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential and government facilities. Property managers standardizing across a building can order the same Kawneer service part for every 42 inch by 8 foot insulated clad leaf.
