Kawneer KW050752 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Kawneer KW050752 concealed closer work on a 36 inch door?
That is exactly what it is built for. The KW050752 concealed overhead closer is sized for 36 inch door applications, so the closing force matches a standard commercial door width. On a wider or narrower leaf you want the Kawneer closer sized for that width instead.
2) Does the KW050752 Kawneer closer hold the door open?
No. The KW050752 is the no hold open version, so the door returns to a fully closed and latched position after every swing. If your opening needs the leaf to stay parked open, this is the wrong configuration and you need a hold open closer.
3) Is this closer mounted in the door or on the face of it?
It mounts concealed overhead, with the mechanism hidden inside the door or frame header rather than sitting on the face of the door. That is why it is used on aluminum storefront and entrance systems where the clean sightline matters. It is not a surface closer and will not drop onto a door prepped for one.
4) Is the Kawneer KW050752 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket closer?
It is a genuine Kawneer service part, sold as a factory replacement component for Kawneer door systems. For a property manager keeping a building's entrances consistent, that matters: the part drops into the existing Kawneer prep without reworking the header.
5) What does medium duty mean for this concealed closer, and is it enough for my entrance?
Medium duty means the closing force is set for moderate traffic commercial openings, office suites, tenant doors, back of house entrances. For a high traffic main entry on a hospital or a school, step up rather than specifying a medium duty unit.
6) I have a Kawneer door with a closer that sticks open, do I need a whole new closer?
If the existing unit is a concealed overhead closer in a 36 inch Kawneer leaf, the KW050752 is the medium duty, no hold open service replacement for it. It replaces the closer body itself, not the door or the header prep, so the repair stays inside the existing opening.
7) Can I use the KW050752 on a residential door?
It is a commercial product, built for Kawneer architectural entrance systems in offices, schools, healthcare, retail, government and multi tenant buildings. A residential wood door has no concealed overhead prep for it.
