Kawneer KW050753 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What door width is the Kawneer KW050753 concealed overhead closer sized for?
The KW050753 is the 36 inch version of Kawneer's International concealed overhead closer. Concealed overhead closers are sized to the door leaf, so a 36 inch closer belongs in a 36 inch door. If your leaf is a different width, you need the matching size in the same International series rather than this part.
2) Does the Kawneer KW050753 closer hold the door open?
Yes, it is the medium duty hold open version. The closer will hold the leaf at a set open position, which is what you want on an entrance that gets propped during deliveries or heavy foot traffic. If your opening needs the door to self-close every time with no hold, this is the wrong variant to order.
3) Is this a complete door closer or just a service part for an existing Kawneer assembly?
It is a genuine Kawneer service part, sold to restore an existing concealed overhead closer assembly in a Kawneer door system. Treat it as a replacement component for an opening that already has the International concealed overhead closer, not as a closer kit for a door that has never had one.
4) Is the KW050753 closer rated for commercial traffic or is it a residential part?
Commercial. It is built for commercial door hardware use, and the typical installs are office buildings, schools, healthcare, retail, government buildings, multi-tenant residential and industrial facilities. Medium duty hold open is the service level, so it suits normal commercial entrance traffic rather than the highest-abuse openings.
5) Will a concealed overhead closer keep the storefront look, or will it show on the door?
It stays out of sight. The closer body is concealed overhead, so nothing hangs on the face of the door or the frame the way a surface closer arm does. That is the reason it is specified on Kawneer aluminum entrances where the architect wants an uninterrupted door and header line.
6) Do I need to know anything about the existing Kawneer closer before ordering the KW050753?
Two things decide it: the door leaf must be 36 inches, and the existing closer must be the International concealed overhead type with medium duty hold open. Kawneer builds this same closer in other widths and without hold open, so matching the size and the hold open function to what is already in the header is what keeps the swap straightforward.
