Kawneer KW050755 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Kawneer KW050755 concealed closer work on a 42 inch wide door?
That is exactly the size it is built for. The KW050755 is an International concealed overhead closer sized for 42 inch door applications, so closing force and arm geometry are matched to that leaf width. On a narrower or wider Kawneer leaf you want the closer sized for that width instead, since overhead concealed closers are width specific.
2) Is the KW050755 a hold open closer or a non-hold-open closer?
Hold open. The KW050755 is the heavy duty hold open version, so the door can be parked open at a set position and stays there until pulled shut. If the opening is fire rated or on a smoke barrier, a hold open closer of this type is not the part you want on that door.
3) I manage a building with Kawneer entrances and the closer is leaking and not holding open. Is this the right replacement?
If the failed unit is an International concealed overhead closer with hold open on a 42 inch leaf, yes, this is the direct service replacement and drops into the existing prep. Pull the header cover and read the old closer's markings and leaf width before ordering, because the same Kawneer door line uses different closers by leaf width and by hold open versus non-hold-open.
4) Is this an actual Kawneer factory part or an aftermarket closer?
Genuine Kawneer. The KW050755 is a Kawneer service replacement part, which is what matters on an aluminum storefront or entrance system where the closer pocket in the header and the arm attachment are proprietary to the manufacturer's door. Aftermarket overhead concealed closers generally require a different header prep.
5) Should I use an overhead concealed closer like this or a surface mounted closer on an aluminum entrance?
An overhead concealed closer lives inside the door header, so nothing shows on the door face or the frame, which is why it is specified on glass entrances where appearance matters. A surface closer mounts on the door or frame face and is easier to service but is visible and needs mounting prep on the leaf. The KW050755 is the concealed type, so it assumes the door and header are already prepped for a concealed closer, typically because that is what came out of it.
6) Does the KW050755 come with the arm, track, and header hardware, or just the closer body?
What ships is the KW050755 closer itself as a single service part, ordered as one item with no configurable options. Reuse of the existing arm, track and header cover is normal on a like-for-like Kawneer swap, so inspect them while the header is open and order any worn linkage separately.
7) Is the KW050755 rated for commercial traffic or is it a light duty closer?
It is a commercial-grade heavy duty unit, intended for high traffic entrances in offices, schools, healthcare, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential and government buildings. It is not a residential part.
