Kawneer KW130884-29 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Kawneer KW130884-29 concealed closer left hand or right hand?
The KW130884-29 is the left-handed version of the LCN 2035 concealed closer. Handing is built into the unit, so it will not work on a right-hand opening. Determine handing from the outside of the door: if the hinges are on your left and the door swings away from you, it is left hand. Order the right-hand service part for the opposite swing.
2) What is the maximum door width for the Kawneer KW130884-29 closer?
Up to 42 inches. That covers most standard commercial entrance and interior leaves, but if your leaf is wider than 42 inches this closer is not the correct part for that opening.
3) Does the KW130884-29 hold the door open?
No. It is configured non hold open, so the door returns to the closed position after every swing with no detent or hold-open arm. If you need a leaf to stay propped, this is the wrong configuration and you want the hold-open version of the 2035 service part instead.
4) Is this a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket closer?
It is supplied as a genuine Kawneer service replacement part, model KW130884-29, carrying the LCN 2035 concealed closer. For a property manager or facilities crew maintaining existing Kawneer entrances, that matters because the service part is built to the fit and function of the original assembly.
5) Where does the LCN 2035 closer mount, and will it show on the door?
It is a concealed closer, mounted inside the door or frame rather than surface applied, so nothing shows on the face of the leaf. That is why it gets specified on storefront and architectural aluminum entrances where a surface closer body would break up the look.
6) What finish is the Kawneer KW130884-29 closer?
Black. Since the closer body sits concealed in the door or frame, the finish matters mainly for the exposed arm and end cap matching the rest of the entrance hardware.
7) Is this closer suitable for a high traffic commercial entrance?
It is a commercial-grade part, rated by the manufacturer for commercial rather than residential use, and is typically found on office entrances, retail storefronts, school corridors, healthcare and government doors, and multi-tenant properties.
