Kawneer KW130886-29 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Kawneer KW130886-29 closer work on a right-hand door?
No. The KW130886-29 is built as a left-handed unit only, so it has to go into a left-hand opening. A concealed closer of this style is handed at the arm and spindle, so installing it on the opposite hand will not operate correctly. For a right-hand opening you need the right-hand version of the same LCN 2035-H service part.
2) What is the maximum door width for the Kawneer LCN 2035-H concealed closer KW130886-29?
Up to 42 inches of door width. Beyond that, the closing power and arm geometry of this unit are outside its stated range, so a wider leaf needs a different closer sized for it. Standard commercial storefront and interior leaves at or under 42 inches are what this part covers.
3) Does the KW130886-29 include hold open, or is it a regular closer?
Hold open is built in. The LCN 2035-H in this Kawneer service part holds the door at a set open position rather than closing it every cycle, which is what you want for move-in traffic, deliveries, or a corridor door that needs to stand open during busy periods. If your opening is a door that must close and latch on every swing, this hold-open version is the wrong choice.
4) Is this the genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket closer?
It is a genuine Kawneer service replacement part, carrying the factory LCN 2035-H concealed closer. For a Kawneer aluminum door system that was originally built with the concealed 2035, this keeps the prep, arm, and spindle matched to the existing top rail pocket instead of forcing a new cut-in.
5) Is a concealed closer like the 2035-H better than a surface closer for a storefront door?
The tradeoff is appearance versus access. The 2035-H mounts inside the door top rail, so nothing shows on the face of the door or the frame, which is why it is specified on retail storefronts and office entrances. The cost is serviceability: adjusting or replacing it means getting into the rail, where a surface closer is reachable with the door hung. Concealed also requires the door and frame to be prepped for it, so it is not a drop-in on a door that currently carries a surface closer.
6) I manage a building with several Kawneer entrances. Can I standardize on this one part number?
Only where the openings match on two points: left-hand swing and a leaf width of 42 inches or less. The KW130886-29 is handed and width-limited, so right-hand leaves on the same building need the opposite-hand version of the LCN 2035-H service part, and anything wider than 42 inches needs a closer sized for it. Doors that use a surface closer rather than a concealed one are a different part entirely.
7) What finish does the Kawneer KW130886-29 come in?
Black. Since the closer body sits concealed in the door rail, the finish mainly affects the visible arm and cover components, and black is the only configuration this service part is supplied in. If your other openings show a clear or bronze anodized arm, the visible hardware will not match.
8) Is the KW130886-29 rated for commercial traffic or is it a light-duty part?
Commercial. It is classified as a commercial-grade component intended for high-use door systems, and the typical applications named for it are office entrances, retail storefronts, school corridors, healthcare doors, and municipal building entries. It is a maintenance and replacement part, not a residential closer.
