Kawneer KW130886-40 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is the Kawneer KW130886-40 closer left hand or right hand?
The KW130886-40 is the left-handed version of the LCN 2035-H concealed closer. Handing is built in, so it will not work on a right-hand opening. Stand outside the door on the pull side: if the hinges are on your left, the door is left hand. Order the right-hand part number for the opposite swing.
2) What door width does the Kawneer KW130886-40 concealed closer cover?
It is sized for door leaves up to 42 inches wide. Anything wider than 42 inches falls outside what this closer is specified for, so a wider storefront or entrance leaf needs a different closer.
3) Does this Kawneer closer hold the door open?
Yes. The H in LCN 2035-H is hold open, so the closer will hold the leaf in the open position when you swing it past the hold open point, then close normally once released. Useful on loading, move-in, and delivery doors where a property manager would otherwise see a wedge under the door.
4) Is the KW130886-40 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket closer?
It is a genuine Kawneer service part, supplied for Kawneer door systems and carrying the LCN 2035-H concealed closer. For a facility standardizing on Kawneer entrances, that matters: the service part is dimensioned to the original opening prep rather than needing field modification.
5) Is this a surface mounted closer or does it hide inside the door?
Concealed. The 2035-H mounts within the door or frame rather than sitting on the face of the leaf, which is why it is specified on glass front and aluminum entrances where a surface closer would be visible. If your opening is not already prepped for a concealed closer, a surface mounted closer is the simpler retrofit.
6) What finish is the Kawneer KW130886-40 and will it match my other entrance hardware?
Dark Bronze. That is the common anodized entrance finish on commercial aluminum storefront, so it lines up with dark bronze doors, frames, and pulls. Since the closer is concealed, the finish only shows on exposed components, but if your building standard is clear anodized or black you would want that finish instead.
7) Is the KW130886-40 suitable for high traffic commercial openings?
It is a commercial-grade replacement part, catalogued for commercial rather than residential use, and typical placements are office buildings, schools, healthcare, retail, government facilities, industrial buildings, and multi-tenant residential.
