Kawneer KW130884-40 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Kawneer KW130884-40 closer work on a right-hand door?
No. The KW130884-40 is built specifically for left-handed door applications, so the hand is fixed and cannot be swapped in the field. If your opening is right-handed you need the right-hand version of the same Kawneer service part rather than this one. Confirm the hand at the opening before ordering, standing outside the door and noting which side the hinges are on.
2) Does this Kawneer closer hold the door open?
No. The KW130884-40 is the non hold open configuration, so the door returns to the closed position every cycle. That is what you want on openings where the door has to stay latched, and it is the configuration typically specified where a door must not be propped. If you need a hold open feature, this is the wrong variant of the LCN 2035.
3) Is the LCN 2035 a surface closer or does it mount inside the door?
It is a concealed closer. The LCN 2035 mechanism is housed within the door or frame rather than sitting on the face of the door, so nothing shows on the opening once installed. If you want a visible, easily serviced arm on the pull side, a surface mounted closer is the different product to look at instead.
4) What finish is the KW130884-40 and will it match my existing Kawneer storefront doors?
Dark Bronze, which is the architectural finish Kawneer uses across its door systems, so it coordinates with dark bronze entrances already in the building. Because the closer is concealed, the finish matters mainly at the exposed cover and end cap rather than across the whole opening.
5) Is this a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket closer?
Genuine. The KW130884-40 is a Kawneer service replacement part, built to the original fit and performance specs for Kawneer door assemblies. For a property manager or facilities crew maintaining a Kawneer entrance, that means the closer drops back into the existing prep rather than requiring rework of the door or header.
6) Is the KW130884-40 closer rated for commercial traffic or is it a residential part?
Commercial. It is a commercial-grade replacement component intended for office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, government buildings, industrial sites, and multi-tenant residential entrances, where the door cycles constantly and has to close reliably every time.
