Kawneer KW130885-29 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Kawneer KW130885-29 closer work on a left-handed door?
No. The KW130885-29 is built for right-handed doors only. The LCN 2035 concealed closer in this part number is handed, so a left-hand opening needs the opposite-hand version. Determine handing from the outside of the door: if the hinges are on your right and the door swings away from you, it is right-handed.
2) What is the maximum door width for the Kawneer KW130885-29 concealed closer?
Doors up to 42 inches wide. Past that width the leverage and closing force are outside what this closer is set up for, so a wider leaf needs a different closer sized for it.
3) Is the KW130885-29 an actual LCN closer or a Kawneer copy?
It is an LCN 2035 concealed closer supplied as a genuine Kawneer service part under Kawneer's own number, KW130885-29. So you get the LCN mechanism in the configuration Kawneer built the door system around, which matters on aluminum entrances where the closer pocket in the top rail is machined for that specific unit.
4) I'm standardizing closers across a building of Kawneer doors. Can I use this one part number everywhere?
Only on the right-handed leaves 42 inches wide or under that need non hold open operation. Left-hand doors take the opposite-hand unit, and any leaf wider than 42 inches or any opening that requires hold open needs a different part. On a pair of doors you will typically need one right-hand and one left-hand closer.
5) Is the KW130885-29 a full closer assembly or just a replacement internal part?
It is catalogued as a replacement part, the LCN 2035 concealed closer unit itself, supplied for service work on existing Kawneer door assemblies rather than as a full new-door hardware package. Arms, spindles and any door prep already in place stay with the door.
6) Is this closer suitable for a high-traffic commercial entrance?
Yes. The KW130885-29 is a commercial-rated part, used on office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, industrial buildings, multi-tenant residential and government buildings. It is not a residential-duty closer.
