Kawneer KW130885-17 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Kawneer KW130885-17 closer work on a left-hand door?
No. The KW130885-17 is factory-configured right-handed, so it drops into a right-hand opening only. For a left-hand leaf you need the opposite-hand version of the same LCN 2035 concealed closer. Determine handing from the outside of the door: if the hinges are on your right as the door swings away from you, it is right-hand.
2) What is the maximum door width for the KW130885-17 LCN 2035 concealed closer?
Up to 42 inches. If the leaf you are working on is wider than 42 inches, this unit is not the right closer size for that opening.
3) Does this Kawneer closer hold the door open?
No, it is the non hold open configuration, so the door returns to fully closed on every cycle. That is what you want on a door in an access-controlled or fire-rated opening. If the building wants the leaf to stand open, a non hold open closer is the wrong choice and a hold open version of the 2035 is needed instead.
4) Is the KW130885-17 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket closer?
It is a genuine Kawneer service replacement part, supplied as the LCN 2035 concealed closer built for Kawneer aluminum door systems. Model designation is KW130885-17. Ordering the Kawneer service number rather than a generic 2035 is how you keep the existing door prep, arm and cover interface correct.
5) What finish does the KW130885-17 come in, and will it match my existing Kawneer doors?
Clear aluminum, which is the standard Kawneer aluminum door and frame finish. On a concealed closer most of the unit sits inside the head or the door, so the finish matters mainly for the visible cover and arm, and clear aluminum blends with mill-finish Kawneer storefront and entrance framing. On dark bronze or anodized black framing the exposed parts will not match.
6) Is a concealed closer like this better than a surface-mounted closer on a glass storefront door?
A concealed closer is chosen when you do not want hardware showing on the door face or the head, which is the usual call on aluminum storefront and glass entrances. The tradeoff is that it requires the door and frame to be prepped for it, so it is a like-for-like replacement job, not something you add to an unprepped opening. If the door has no concealed prep, a surface closer is the practical route.
7) I need to replace a failed closer in a Kawneer entrance door. Is this the whole closer or just a service part?
It is the closer unit itself, supplied as a Kawneer replacement part: the LCN 2035 concealed closer, non hold open, right hand, for leaves up to 42 inches wide. Confirm the handing and the leaf width of the door you are servicing before ordering, since both are fixed on this unit.
8) Is this closer rated for a high-traffic commercial entrance?
Yes, it is a commercial-grade unit intended for high-traffic institutional and commercial openings, including office buildings, schools, healthcare, retail, government and multi-tenant residential entrances. It is not a residential-duty product.
