Kawneer KW130887-17 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Kawneer KW130887-17 concealed closer work on a left-hand door?
No. The KW130887-17 is built specifically for right-handed door applications, so a left-hand opening needs the opposite-hand version of the part. Handing on a concealed closer is not field-reversible on this unit, so confirm the swing before ordering.
2) What door width does the Kawneer KW130887-17 LCN 2035-H closer cover?
It covers door widths up to 42 inches, which takes in most standard commercial aluminum entrance leaves. A wider leaf than 42 inches falls outside what this closer is rated for.
3) Is the KW130887-17 a surface-mounted closer or does it hide inside the door?
Concealed. The LCN 2035-H mechanism installs inside the door assembly rather than on the face of the door or frame, which is why it is used on aluminum storefront and entrance systems where the architectural line matters. If you need a visible surface closer, this is not that part.
4) Does this Kawneer closer hold the door open?
Yes, hold-open is built in. The 2035-H version lets the door stay at a set open position, which is what building managers usually want for move-ins, deliveries, and accessibility-driven traffic. If the opening is a fire door that must self-close, order a non-hold-open closer instead.
5) Is the KW130887-17 a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket substitute?
It is a genuine Kawneer service replacement part, designated for compatible Kawneer door systems. For a property manager standardizing on existing Kawneer entrances, that matters more than it sounds: concealed closer pockets and prep are system specific, and a service part is prepped to drop into the assembly it was designed for.
6) What finish is the Kawneer KW130887-17 and will it match my storefront?
Clear Aluminum, which is the standard anodized look on most aluminum door framing and storefront systems. On a concealed closer most of the assembly is hidden anyway, so the finish is about the exposed arm and cover blending with the existing frame.
7) Is this closer rated for commercial traffic or is it a residential-duty unit?
Commercial duty. The KW130887-17 is specified for commercial door assemblies and is used in offices, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, government buildings, multi-tenant residential, and industrial sites. It is not a light residential closer.
