Kawneer KW130887-29 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Kawneer KW130887-29 closer work on a left-handed door?
No. The KW130887-29 is factory-configured for right-handed doors only. If your opening swings the other way, you need the left-handed version of this LCN 2035-H concealed closer instead. Handing is not field-reversible on this part, so confirm the swing at the door before ordering.
2) What door width does the KW130887-29 concealed closer cover?
It is sized for door leaves up to 42 inches wide. That covers most standard commercial entrance leaves. For anything wider than 42 inches, this closer is the wrong size and you need the wider-capacity version of the LCN 2035 concealed closer.
3) Is the LCN 2035-H in this Kawneer part a hold-open closer or a regular closer?
Hold-open. The H in LCN 2035-H is the hold-open function, so the door can be parked in the open position when you need it, then released to close normally. If you do not want the door staying open (a fire-rated opening, for example), do not specify the hold-open version.
4) Is this a genuine Kawneer replacement part for a Kawneer entrance door?
Yes. KW130887-29 is a Kawneer service part, catalogued as a replacement component for Kawneer door systems, so it matches the original concealed closer pocket and hardware prep in those doors rather than needing a retrofit kit.
5) Will a concealed closer like this show on the door or frame after install?
Very little. The LCN 2035-H mounts concealed in the door or header rather than surface-mounted on the face, so there is no closer body or arm visible on the pull side. That is the usual choice on aluminum storefront and glass front entrances where a surface closer would be an eyesore. If the opening has no closer pocket, a surface-mounted closer is the simpler route.
6) Do I get anything besides the closer when I order KW130887-29?
What you are ordering is the LCN 2035-H concealed closer assembly with hold-open, right-handed, in black, as a single Kawneer service part. Plan on reusing the existing header pocket, spindle prep, and top pivot in the Kawneer door; nothing beyond the closer itself is listed as part of this model number.
7) What finish does the KW130887-29 closer come in, and will it match my other entrance doors?
Black. It is only offered in the black finish under this model number, so if your other Kawneer entrances are clear anodized or bronze, the exposed cover on this one will not match. Since most of the mechanism is concealed, the visible difference is limited to the cover plate.
8) Is this closer suitable for a house or only commercial buildings?
Commercial only. Kawneer rates the KW130887-29 for commercial-grade installations, and it is typically specified in office buildings, schools, healthcare, retail, government buildings, industrial facilities, and multi-tenant residential entrances. For a residential entry door, a residential-duty surface closer is the right product.
