Keedex K-BXAD – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the K-BXAD gate box work with a 2-3/8 inch backset lock?
No. The K-BXAD is prepped for a 2-3/4 inch backset, which is the backset the Schlage AD Series it is built for uses. A 2-3/8 inch backset lock will not line up in this box, so you need a box prepped for the backset your lock actually is.
2) How much room do I need in my gate frame to weld in a Keedex K-BXAD?
The box needs a 1-3/4 inch depth behind the face, and its face footprint is 5-1/2 by 16 inches. On a tube gate frame that means the tube has to be at least as deep as 1-3/4 inches for the box to sit in flush, and you need 16 inches of clear stile height to cut the opening. Measure the tube before you cut, not after.
3) Does the Keedex K-BXAD come with the Schlage AD lock, or do I order that separately?
The box only. The K-BXAD is the weldable housing that accepts a Schlage AD Series lock, so the AD lock, the credential reader configuration, and any trim or cylinder are separate orders. Plan on the box plus the AD lock plus your welding and finish work to complete the opening.
4) Is the Keedex K-BXAD strong enough for a commercial gate that gets heavy use?
It is made of 14 gauge steel and catalogued for commercial use, which is the weight normally welded into perimeter and access gates rather than a light residential application. Because it welds into the frame, the box carries the lock load through the frame steel instead of through a thin gate skin.
5) Do I need to paint or finish the Keedex weldable gate box after installing it?
Yes, plan on it. The box is bare 14 gauge steel meant to be welded in, so the welds and the raw steel need to be ground, primed, and finished to match the gate. There is no factory finish that survives welding anyway.
