1) What is the Keedex K-BXEDCR weldable box used for on a gate?
The K-BXEDCR is a weld-in steel enclosure that lets you mount a cylindrical lockset on a hollow metal or tube-steel gate frame that has no room for a normal door prep. You weld the box to the gate, and the lock body and trim mount inside it instead of into the gate stile. It is built for a cylindrical lock, so it is not the box to use for a mortise body.
2) Which Cal-Royal locks does the Keedex K-BXEDCR weldable box fit?
It is cut for Cal-Royal F2200 and F2260V cylindrical locks used with ENT-00L, STR-05L, or PAS-30L trim. If your gate lock is one of those Cal-Royal models with that trim, the box is prepped for it. A different manufacturer's cylindrical lock, or a different Cal-Royal trim, needs a box prepped for that specific lock.
3) Do I get the lock with the Keedex K-BXEDCR box, or do I order it separately?
The box only. The Cal-Royal F2200 or F2260V lockset and its ENT-00L, STR-05L, or PAS-30L trim are separate orders. Plan on the box, the lock, the trim, and a strike or keeper on the receiving post to finish the opening.
4) What gauge steel is the Keedex weldable gate box, and will it hold up outdoors?
It is 14 gauge steel, which is the weight Keedex uses so the box can be welded to a gate frame and carry a lockset without flexing. It ships as bare steel, so once it is welded in, prime and paint or powder coat it along with the gate; the box is not supplied with a factory finish.
5) Should I use a weldable gate box or just drill the gate frame for the lock?
Drilling a tube-steel gate directly rarely works: there is no way to get a 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inch backset and a chassis into a narrow hollow section, and the cut edges have nothing to clamp against. A weldable box gives the lock a proper prep in a 14 gauge steel housing you weld to the frame. If your gate is a solid or hollow metal door leaf already prepped for a cylindrical lock, you do not need a box at all.
6) Is the Keedex K-BXEDCR rated for commercial gate use?
Yes, it is a commercial door hardware item, and the 14 gauge steel body is why: it is welded permanently into the gate and carries the lock the way a door stile would.
