Klein Tools 51608 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Klein Tools iron conduit bender head come with a handle?
No handle is included. The iron bender head is the casting only, and it works with Klein Tools' bender handle Cat. No. 51427, which is sold separately. Order the handle along with the head if you don't already have one on the truck.
2) What conduit sizes are available in the Klein iron bender head line?
Three head sizes: 1/2 inch (Cat. No. 51608), 3/4 inch (51609), and 1 inch (51610). All three use the same bender handle, so an electrician running multiple conduit sizes can keep one handle and swap heads.
3) Will the 3/4-inch Klein bender head bend rigid and IMC as well as EMT?
Yes. The 3/4 inch iron head is cut for 3/4 inch EMT and also for 1/2 inch rigid and 1/2 inch IMC. Rigid and IMC have thicker walls and a larger outside diameter than EMT of the same trade size, which is why one head covers 3/4 EMT and 1/2 rigid/IMC.
4) Should I buy an iron bender head or an aluminum one for daily commercial work?
The iron head is the heavier-duty choice. It's cast ductile iron, so it takes repeated hard pulls on rigid and IMC better than a lighter aluminum head, at the cost of carrying more weight up a ladder. If your work is mostly light EMT on service calls and weight matters, aluminum is the easier tool; for a crew bending rigid and IMC all day, go iron.
5) What bend angle markings are on the Klein iron conduit bender head?
Markings are cast in for 10, 22.5, 30, 45 and 60 degrees, with the matching offset multipliers alongside them. Because they're cast rather than stamped or printed, they don't wear off the way painted markings do, and the symbols are laid out for saddle and back-to-back bends as well as plain stub-ups.
6) Does this Klein bender head work with the Angle Setter?
Yes. The iron head is built to accept Klein's Angle Setter, Cat. No. 51612, which lets you repeat the same angle bend after bend without eyeballing the mark. The Angle Setter is a separate item.
7) How does the hook on the Klein iron bender head keep conduit from twisting?
The interior hook surface is shaped to hold the pipe seated through the pull so it won't roll or twist in the shoe, which is what throws an offset out of plane. The foot pedal is wide for stability and leverage when you're putting your weight into the bend.
