Klein Tools 51606 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Klein 3/4-inch aluminum conduit bender also bend rigid or IMC conduit?
Yes. The 3/4-inch EMT head (Cat. No. 51607) is designed to bend 3/4-inch EMT, 1/2-inch Rigid and 1/2-inch IMC conduit. Those three share the same bending radius on that shoe, so one head covers all of them. If you are running 1/2-inch EMT instead, order the 51606 head.
2) Does the conduit bender come with a handle, or do I have to buy it separately?
It ships as a full assembly, so the handle is included and attached. The handle measures 38 inches (96.5 cm), which is what gives you the leverage to pull a 3/4-inch bend standing up.
3) What is the Klein Angle Setter and is it included with the 3/4-inch bender?
The Angle Setter is a hard stop that clamps to the bender so you pull to the same angle every time without eyeballing the mark. The 3/4-inch assembled aluminum bender includes it, and it works on 10, 22.5, 30 and 45 degree bends, already adjusted for conduit spring back. The matching standalone 3/4-inch Angle Setter is Cat. No. 51612.
4) What trade sizes does the Klein aluminum conduit bender full assembly come in?
Two: a 1/2-inch EMT assembly (Cat. No. 51606) and a 3/4-inch EMT assembly (Cat. No. 51607). Conduit benders are size-specific, so the head has to match the trade size you are running. Both come as a full assembly, head and handle together.
5) Can I make offsets and saddle bends with this bender, or only 90s?
The cast head carries markings for 10, 22.5, 30, 45 and 60 degrees plus the corresponding offset multipliers, so you can lay out offsets, saddles and back-to-back bends directly off the tool instead of doing the math on paper. The markings are bold cast symbols for lining the conduit up quickly.
6) Is the head aluminum or cast iron, and will it hold up on a commercial job?
The head is aluminum, reinforced for added strength, which is why it is light enough to carry up a ladder all day. Iron benders are heavier and are what crews generally reach for on rigid work at larger trade sizes; this one is spec'd for 3/4-inch EMT with 1/2-inch rigid and IMC capability.
7) How big is the Klein aluminum bender assembly for truck or van storage?
Assembled it measures 39.875 inches deep by 9.625 inches high by 2.5 inches wide, so it stows flat along a van wall or in a conduit rack. The 38-inch handle is the bulk of that length.
8) Does the conduit roll or twist in the hook while you are bending?
The interior hook surface is shaped to hold the conduit from rolling or twisting through the pull, and the wide foot pedal gives you a stable platform and leverage while you step into it. That combination is what keeps a saddle in plane across multiple bends.
