It's a Class C, Type 1 hard hat, which means top-impact protection only and no electrical insulation. Class C is the vented class, so it must not be used near exposed energized conductors. If your crew needs dielectric protection, you need a Class E or Class G hard hat instead. The Klein 60400 non-vented and 60401 vented models both carry ANSI Z89.1-2014 and CSA Z94.1-15, plus EN397:2012+A1:2012 lateral deformation.

Ventilation. Cat. No. 60400 is the non-vented shell, 60401 is the vented one with adjustable vents you can open or close. Everything else is the same white PC/ABS full brim shell. Pick vented for hot outdoor work where airflow matters; pick non-vented if your site spec or a jobsite hazard like overhead spray, sparks, or falling debris through openings rules out vents.

Sizing runs 6.5 to 8, adjusted by a large-knob ratchet you can turn one-handed with gloves on. The suspension is 4-point with a pivoting soft neck pad, so it clears a bandana knot or a ponytail instead of pushing the hat forward. That range covers most crews from a single stock item, which is what you want if you're buying for a fleet rather than an individual.

Yes. There are dedicated accessory mounts on the front and back sized for Klein headlamps, so the lamp clips on directly, no elastic strap or zip ties. The compatible rechargeable headlamps are Cat. Nos. 56049, 56048 and 56062, sold separately.

This is a Type 1, meaning it's tested for impact to the top of the head. Type 2 adds lateral impact protection and is what some sites specify for work around swinging loads or fall hazards. The Klein shell does carry EN397 lateral deformation and EN12492 front, back and side impact testing, but its ANSI classification is Type 1, so if your drawing or safety plan calls out ANSI Type 2, this is not the hat to buy.

It has universal accessory slots on both sides for hearing protection, a face shield and similar attachments, plus the mount points front and back. Slot locations are front, back, and both sides.

Four replacement items are available separately: sweatband KHHSWTBND, top pad KHHTOPPAD, chin strap KHHSTRP, and suspension system KHHSPN. Note the chin strap is a separate purchase, not included, so budget for it if your site requires one. Keeping sweatbands and top pads on the shelf is the usual MRO move, since those are the parts that wear and get replaced long before the shell does.

The padded sweatband and top pad are sweat-wicking, odor resistant and machine washable, so they go through the laundry rather than into the bin. That cuts consumable spend on crews that wear hats daily in heat.

Shell is PC/ABS and the hat weighs 0.9 lbs. Overall it measures 12.5 in long, 10.7 in wide and 6.5 in high, so the full brim throws shade all the way around rather than just at the front like a cap style. Worth knowing the brim width if you work in tight overhead spaces or ladder cages where a full brim catches.

The shell color is white, the usual supervisor and general-contractor color on most sites. If your color-coding scheme assigns another color to a trade, you'd need a different shell; the only choice on this hat is vented (60401) versus non-vented (60400).
