Larsens Architectural Series 24095- 20LB - 27 X 12 Capacity - Non Fire Rated - Stainless Steel Door

These Architectural Series Cabinets feature a nominal inside box dimension of 27 inches (68.6 cm) height, 12 inches (30.5 cm) width and 8 inches (20.3 cm) depth.

BOX SPECIFICATION: All recessed and semi-recessed cabinets and surface-mounted steel cabinets have a heavy gauge, white baked enamel box. Surface-mounted cabinets with aluminum door and trim have a box constructed entirely of clear or color anodized aluminum. Surface-mounted cabinets with stainless steel door and trim have a box constructed entirely of 304 stainless steel with #4 finish.

TRIM AND DOOR SPECIFICATION: Steel trims and doors are one piece, constructed of cold-rolled steel with a standard finish of white baked acrylic enamel, which can be used as either a finish or prime coat. Aluminum trims are constructed of extruded or fabricated aluminum and all corners are mitered. Aluminum is the recommended material for applications in salt air and other corrosion prone environments. Clear satin anodized finish is standard for all trims and doors, and optional color anodized finishes are available. To specify aluminum trim and door, use the prefix “AL” before the cabinet model number. Stainless steel trims and doors are one piece, constructed of #4 finish, 304 stainless steel. To specify stainless steel trim and door, use the prefix “SS” before the cabinet model number. All steel and stainless steel doors have a tubular, hollow-metal design. Samples of door and trim materials are pictured.

ALL OF THESE DOOR STYLES ARE AVAILABLE WITH EXCLUSIVE LARSEN-LOC® OPTION. The Larsen-Loc® provides access to a locked cabinet, without requiring the breaking of glass. During an emergency, it permits the cabinet door to be opened simply by pulling sharply on the handle. Factory applied decal reads: “IN CASE OF FIRE ONLY – PULL FIRMLY ON HANDLE”. By specifying the Larsen-Loc®, access to a locked cabinet is totally independent of the desired door style and glazing. All door styles can be combined with the Larsen-Loc®, including a solid metal door. The standard Larsen-Loc® on a Solid Door would be appropriate for gymnasiums or any locations where emergency access is required but where any kind of glazing or glazing opening may not be suitable. The Solid Door with Larsen-Loc® also can be specified as an Institutional Door (emergency access only with a key) by deleting the pull handle and decal

  • Inside box depth is 43 ⁄4" when supplied with aluminum door and trim. The AL2409-5R and AL2409-R7 have 11 ⁄4" square trims.
  • Trimless cabinets must be installed before drywall because their plaster stops must be behind the drywall. Trimless are not recommended for block wall installation.
  • Deduct 3 ⁄4" from H x W dimensions for cabinets with aluminum door and trim. This does not apply to “FS” fire-rated option.
  • To comply with ADA wall projection guidelines, this cabinet must be mounted with its leading edge at or below 27" from the finished floor

Die-cut letters are state-of-the-art for precise and attractive cabinet identification and have replaced silk screen letters as the industry standard. They are available in standard colors of red, black, or white and the standard designs of vertical, horizontal, or type A. A selection of the more popular styles is pictured below. Custom lettering, special colors, and pictorial graphics also are available, if specified.

VIGILANTE ALARM

Larsen’s exclusive Vigilante Alarm provides additional protection for a cabinet’s life safety contents. The Vigilante can reduce theft losses, help to prolong extinguisher life, and safeguard fire department valves, fire hose, and other equipment. It is constructed of high impact plastic, is plunger activated and includes a heavy-duty 9 volt battery as standard equipment. The on/off jack provides for convenient servicing of the cabinet’s contents by authorized personnel.

Larsens SS2712RAFG – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What size rough opening do I need to recess the Larsens 2712 fire extinguisher cabinet?
Frame out for 29-1/8 inches high on the rough opening. The 2712 has a 27 x 12 x 8 inch nominal inside box, and the stainless trim flange finishes at 30.5 inches high by 15.5 inches wide, so the flange covers the cut edge once the wall is closed up.
2) Will a Larsens 2712 cabinet fit in a 4 inch stud wall, or do I need a deeper wall?
Wall depth is something you pick when you order. The 2712 is offered for 4 inch, 4-1/2 inch, 6 inch, 7-1/4 inch and 8-1/4 inch walls, plus a surface mounted version for solid block or concrete where you can't cut a pocket. The box itself is 8 inches deep inside, so on the shallower walls the cabinet projects out; that projection is what the semi-recessed depths are for.
3) Is the Larsens 2712 cabinet ADA compliant, and how high do I mount it?
It's an ADA compliant cabinet, but compliance depends on how you set it. To meet ADA wall projection guidelines, mount it with the leading edge at or below 27 inches from the finished floor. Hang it higher than that and a projecting cabinet becomes a protruding object regardless of what the cabinet is rated for.
4) Can I use the Larsens 2712 cabinet in a fire rated wall or a rated corridor?
No. The 2712 as configured here is non fire rated, so it can't go in a rated wall assembly. If your drawing calls for a rated cabinet in a one or two hour partition, you need the fire-rated version of the cabinet instead of this one.
5) Is the whole Larsens 2712 cabinet stainless steel, or just the door?
Depends on how it's mounted. The door and trim are one-piece 304 stainless with a #4 finish either way. On recessed and semi-recessed cabinets the box behind the wall is heavy gauge steel with a white baked enamel finish. Only the surface-mounted version has a box built entirely of 304 stainless with a #4 finish, so if the box will be exposed and you want stainless all around, order it surface mounted.
6) Which door style should I pick for a Larsens 2712 in a school gym or a high-traffic corridor?
Four door styles are offered: full glass, horizontal duo, vertical duo, and solid. In a gym or anywhere a ball or a cart can hit the door, the solid metal door is the one to spec, and you pair it with the Larsen-Loc so the cabinet still opens in an emergency without breaking glass. Glazed doors (full glass or either duo style) are the choice where the extinguisher needs to be visible from down the corridor.
7) How do I lock a Larsens fire extinguisher cabinet and still let people get to the extinguisher in an emergency?
That's what the Larsen-Loc is for. It lets a locked cabinet be opened by pulling sharply on the handle, no glass to break, with a factory decal reading "IN CASE OF FIRE ONLY - PULL FIRMLY ON HANDLE". It works with any door style including solid metal. If you want key-only access instead, the solid door with Larsen-Loc can be ordered as an Institutional Door by deleting the pull handle and decal. A conventional lock is also available on the 2712 as an ordering choice.
8) What glazing options are there on a Larsens 2712, and which one should I use in a school?
Three: standard acrylic, which is included, tempered glass, or laminated safety glass. Acrylic is the default and won't shard. Tempered breaks into blunt granules. Laminated safety glass holds together in the interlayer when it breaks, which is why it gets specified in schools, healthcare and other places where broken-glass exposure is the concern. The glazing choice only applies to the full glass and duo door styles; a solid door has none.
9) Do I have to order anything else with a Larsens 2712 to finish the installation?
The cabinet ships with your door style, trim, glazing and handle choice. What you add on top is signage and identification: die-cut lettering in red, black or white, in vertical, horizontal, Type A, or the international extinguisher symbol layout. Die-cut letters are the current industry standard for cabinet identification, having replaced silk screen. Angled projection signs and a fire handle in standard, red, white or black are separate line items too, and the extinguisher itself is not part of the cabinet.
10) How do I stop fire extinguishers being stolen out of the cabinets in my building?
Larsen's Vigilante Alarm is the add-on for that. It's plunger activated, so opening the door sets it off, built of high impact plastic and supplied with a heavy-duty 9 volt battery. An on/off jack lets your service tech silence it while inspecting the contents, which matters if you're doing annual extinguisher checks across a portfolio. It's available on the 2712 in a standard or surface mounted version, and it also protects hose and fire department valve cabinets.
11) I want stainless cabinets in a coastal building. Is the Larsens 2712 stainless door the right call?
For salt air and other corrosion prone environments, Larsen's names aluminum as the recommended trim and door material, not stainless. The 2712's 304 stainless #4 finish door and trim is the choice for appearance and durability on interior work, and it does give you an all-stainless box in the surface mounted configuration. If the location is genuinely exposed to salt air, order the cabinet with the AL prefix for aluminum trim and door, which is available in clear satin anodized as standard or optional color anodized.
12) What is the difference between the recessed and not-recessed handle on a Larsens cabinet?
The 2712 offers both a recessed and a non-recessed pull. A recessed handle sits flush in the door face, so nothing sticks into the corridor, which is the safer pick in tight egress paths and in facilities where a projecting pull can catch a gurney or a cart. The non-recessed pull stands proud of the door and is quicker to grab in a hurry.
