The Larsens 2409 Architectural Series is a recessed fire extinguisher cabinet for commercial, institutional, and multi-family applications where ADA compliance and a clean architectural finish are required. Available in three wall depths (3", 4", and 5-1/4") and five door styles, this cabinet fits virtually any wall construction and design specification. To comply with ADA wall projection guidelines, mount with the leading edge at or below 27" from finished floor.

Door & Trim Specifications

Steel trims and doors are one piece, cold-rolled steel with a standard white baked acrylic enamel finish (usable as finish or prime coat). Aluminum trims are extruded or fabricated with mitered corners and clear satin anodized finish standard - specify prefix "AL" before the model number. Stainless steel trims and doors are one piece, #4 finish 304 stainless steel - specify prefix "SS" before the model number. All steel and stainless steel doors use a tubular hollow-metal design.

A factory-applied decal reads: "IN CASE OF FIRE ONLY - PULL FIRMLY ON HANDLE." The Larsen-Loc® is compatible with all door styles, including solid metal doors, making it suitable for gymnasiums and locations where glazing is not appropriate. 1) Is the Larsens 2409 cabinet ADA compliant, and how high do I mount it?
The 2409 is ADA compliant, but compliance depends on how you set it. Mount the cabinet with the leading edge at or below 27 inches from finished floor to stay inside the ADA wall projection guideline. That matters most when the cabinet projects into a corridor rather than sitting fully buried in the wall. Fully recess it in a deep enough wall and projection stops being the issue at all.
2) Can a Larsens 2409 cabinet go into a fire-rated wall or corridor partition?
No. The 2409 is a non-fire-rated cabinet, so recessing it into a rated partition cuts the assembly and breaks the rating. In a rated wall you need Larsens' fire-rated version, which carries the FS designation, or you surface mount a non-rated cabinet on the face of the wall so the partition is never opened. In non-rated construction, which is most corridors, lobbies and multi-family common areas, the 2409 recesses without any of that.
3) Which wall depth do I order on a Larsens 2409, 3 inch, 4 inch or 5-1/4 inch?
Order the wall depth that matches the wall you are cutting into, not the cabinet size. The choices are 3 inches, 4 inches and 5-1/4 inches. The box itself is 5 inches deep inside, so in a 5-1/4 inch wall it buries and finishes flush, while in a 3 inch wall it cannot sit fully back and the cabinet stands semi-recessed into the room. That is the case where the 27 inch leading-edge mounting rule earns its keep. Standard 2x4 framing with drywall both faces lands near 4-1/2 inches, so measure your actual wall thickness before you pick.
4) I need a locked extinguisher cabinet but the fire marshal wants access without a key. What are my options?
The Larsen-Loc handles that. It is available on every door style for the 2409, and it lets anyone open a locked cabinet in an emergency by pulling sharply on the handle, with no glass to break and no key to find. A factory decal on the door reads IN CASE OF FIRE ONLY, PULL FIRMLY ON HANDLE. If you want the opposite, a cabinet that opens by key only, that is the Institutional Door: the same solid door with the pull handle and decal deleted. Locks are ordered either way, with or without.
5) What door style should I use for a gym, school hallway or another spot where glass gets broken?
Skip the glazed doors and take the Solid Door or the Institutional Door. Both are steel with no glazing to break, and Larsens calls out the solid door with Larsen-Loc specifically for gymnasiums and other places where glazing is not appropriate. The Institutional Door goes further: key access only, no pull handle and no decal, which is the one to spec where you want the cabinet closed to everyone but staff. The glazed and duo doors, full glass, horizontal duo and vertical duo, are the ones that let people see the extinguisher, which is usually what you want in an office corridor and not what you want in a gym.
6) What do I have to specify when ordering a Larsens 2409 cabinet?
Four things decide the part. Wall depth: 3 inches, 4 inches or 5-1/4 inches, matched to your wall. Door style: full glass, solid, horizontal duo, vertical duo or institutional.
