Larsens Architectural Series AL2409R- 5LB Capacity -Non Fire Rated - Aluminum Door These Architectural Series Cabinets feature a nominal inside box dimension of 24 inches (60.9 cm) height, 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) width and 5 inches (12.7 cm) depth.

BOX SPECIFICATION: All recessed and semi-recessed cabinets and surface-mounted steel cabinets have a heavy gauge, white baked enamel box. Surface-mounted cabinets with aluminum door and trim have a box constructed entirely of clear or color anodized aluminum. Surface-mounted cabinets with stainless steel door and trim have a box constructed entirely of 304 stainless steel with #4 finish.

TRIM AND DOOR SPECIFICATION: Steel trims and doors are one piece, constructed of cold-rolled steel with a standard finish of white baked acrylic enamel, which can be used as either a finish or prime coat. Aluminum trims are constructed of extruded or fabricated aluminum and all corners are mitered. Aluminum is the recommended material for applications in salt air and other corrosion prone environments. Clear satin anodized finish is standard for all trims and doors, and optional color anodized finishes are available. To specify aluminum trim and door, use the prefix “AL” before the cabinet model number. Stainless steel trims and doors are one piece, constructed of #4 finish, 304 stainless steel. To specify stainless steel trim and door, use the prefix “SS” before the cabinet model number. All steel and stainless steel doors have a tubular, hollow-metal design. Samples of door and trim materials are pictured.

ALL OF THESE DOOR STYLES ARE AVAILABLE WITH EXCLUSIVE LARSEN-LOC® OPTION. The Larsen-Loc® provides access to a locked cabinet, without requiring the breaking of glass. During an emergency, it permits the cabinet door to be opened simply by pulling sharply on the handle. Factory applied decal reads: “IN CASE OF FIRE ONLY – PULL FIRMLY ON HANDLE”. By specifying the Larsen-Loc®, access to a locked cabinet is totally independent of the desired door style and glazing. All door styles can be combined with the Larsen-Loc®, including a solid metal door. The standard Larsen-Loc® on a Solid Door would be appropriate for gymnasiums or any locations where emergency access is required but where any kind of glazing or glazing opening may not be suitable. The Solid Door with Larsen-Loc® also can be specified as an Institutional Door (emergency access only with a key) by deleting the pull handle and decal

  • Inside box depth is 43 ⁄4" when supplied with aluminum door and trim. The AL2409-5R and AL2409-R7 have 11 ⁄4" square trims.
  • Trimless cabinets must be installed before drywall because their plaster stops must be behind the drywall. Trimless are not recommended for block wall installation.
  • Deduct 3 ⁄4" from H x W dimensions for cabinets with aluminum door and trim. This does not apply to “FS” fire-rated option.
  • To comply with ADA wall projection guidelines, this cabinet must be mounted with its leading edge at or below 27" from the finished floor

Larsens AL24095RFG – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How high can I mount a Larsens Architectural Series extinguisher cabinet and still meet ADA?
To satisfy ADA wall projection guidelines, mount the AL2409R with its leading edge at or below 27 inches from the finished floor. That is the number an inspector checks on a semi-recessed or surface cabinet, because anything protruding into the path of travel above 27 inches is not cane-detectable. Recessing the cabinet into the wall so it does not project is the other way trades handle it, and the 3 inch, 4 inch and 5.25 inch wall depth choices are what let you do that in the wall you have.
2) Can I lock a Larsens extinguisher cabinet and still have people get to the extinguisher in an emergency?
Yes, and that is what the Larsen-Loc option is for. It lets a locked cabinet be opened by pulling sharply on the handle, no glass to break, with a factory-applied decal reading "IN CASE OF FIRE ONLY - PULL FIRMLY ON HANDLE". It works with any door style including a solid metal door, which is the usual pick for gymnasiums and anywhere glazing is not suitable. Delete the pull handle and decal and the same solid door becomes an Institutional Door, key access only. A lock is its own ordering choice on the AL2409R, included or not included.
3) Should I get an aluminum door extinguisher cabinet or a steel one?
Aluminum is the material Larsens recommends for salt air and other corrosion prone environments, which is why coastal, natatorium, and exterior-adjacent openings get it. The AL prefix on the model number is what specifies the aluminum trim and door; clear satin anodized is the standard finish with color anodized available. Steel doors and trim come in white baked acrylic enamel that works as a finish or a prime coat, so they take field paint if you are matching a wall color. Stainless is the third route, #4 finish 304, for kitchens and high-abuse public areas.
4) What door styles does the Larsens AL2409R Architectural Series cabinet come in?
Four door styles: full glass, horizontal duo, vertical duo, and solid. Full glass and the duo styles show the extinguisher, which is what most inspectors and facility staff prefer for visual verification. Solid is the one to pick where glazing is a liability, gyms and behavioral health among them, and it pairs with the Larsen-Loc so the cabinet still opens under emergency without a key. Handle style is a separate choice, recessed or not recessed; recessed keeps the pull out of the path of travel in a tight corridor.
5) What do I need to add to a Larsens extinguisher cabinet order to get it labeled for code?
Identification is ordered on top of the cabinet on the AL2409R. Die-cut letters are the current industry standard, replacing silk screen, in red, black, or white with vertical, horizontal, or Type A layouts, plus the international extinguisher symbol. Custom lettering, special colors, and pictorial graphics can be specified. Separate wall signs and horizontal or vertical decals are also available, and a fire handle in standard, red, white, or black. Facilities standardizing across a portfolio usually pick one lettering layout and color and repeat it on every cabinet.
6) How do I stop people from walking off with the extinguisher out of an open cabinet?
Larsens offers the Vigilante Alarm for exactly that. It is plunger activated, built of high impact plastic, and ships with a heavy-duty 9 volt battery. An on/off jack lets authorized staff service the cabinet contents without setting it off. Larsens positions it to reduce theft losses, prolong extinguisher life, and protect fire department valves, hose, and other equipment. It can be ordered standard or surface mounted on the AL2409R.
7) What kind of box comes behind a Larsens surface-mounted aluminum-door cabinet?
On surface-mounted cabinets with aluminum door and trim, the box itself is built entirely of clear or color anodized aluminum, so the whole assembly is corrosion resistant, not just the face. Recessed and semi-recessed cabinets, and surface-mounted steel cabinets, use a heavy gauge white baked enamel box instead. Surface-mounted stainless units get a 304 stainless box with a #4 finish. That matters when the cabinet is going outdoors or in a wash-down area, where a painted steel box behind an aluminum door will be the part that fails first.
