Larsens Architectural Series AL24095- 5LB Capacity - Fire Rated - Aluminum Door

These Architectural Series Cabinets feature a nominal inside box dimension of 24 inches (60.9 cm) height, 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) width and 5 inches (12.7 cm) depth.

BOX SPECIFICATION: All recessed and semi-recessed cabinets and surface-mounted steel cabinets have a heavy gauge, white baked enamel box. Surface-mounted cabinets with aluminum door and trim have a box constructed entirely of clear or color anodized aluminum. Surface-mounted cabinets with stainless steel door and trim have a box constructed entirely of 304 stainless steel with #4 finish.

TRIM AND DOOR SPECIFICATION: Steel trims and doors are one piece, constructed of cold-rolled steel with a standard finish of white baked acrylic enamel, which can be used as either a finish or prime coat. Aluminum trims are constructed of extruded or fabricated aluminum and all corners are mitered. Aluminum is the recommended material for applications in salt air and other corrosion prone environments. Clear satin anodized finish is standard for all trims and doors, and optional color anodized finishes are available. To specify aluminum trim and door, use the prefix “AL” before the cabinet model number. Stainless steel trims and doors are one piece, constructed of #4 finish, 304 stainless steel. To specify stainless steel trim and door, use the prefix “SS” before the cabinet model number. All steel and stainless steel doors have a tubular, hollow-metal design. Samples of door and trim materials are pictured.

ALL OF THESE DOOR STYLES ARE AVAILABLE WITH EXCLUSIVE LARSEN-LOC® OPTION. The Larsen-Loc® provides access to a locked cabinet, without requiring the breaking of glass. During an emergency, it permits the cabinet door to be opened simply by pulling sharply on the handle. Factory applied decal reads: “IN CASE OF FIRE ONLY – PULL FIRMLY ON HANDLE”. By specifying the Larsen-Loc®, access to a locked cabinet is totally independent of the desired door style and glazing. All door styles can be combined with the Larsen-Loc®, including a solid metal door. The standard Larsen-Loc® on a Solid Door would be appropriate for gymnasiums or any locations where emergency access is required but where any kind of glazing or glazing opening may not be suitable. The Solid Door with Larsen-Loc® also can be specified as an Institutional Door (emergency access only with a key) by deleting the pull handle and decal

  • Inside box depth is 43 ⁄4" when supplied with aluminum door and trim. The AL2409-5R and AL2409-R7 have 11 ⁄4" square trims.
  • Trimless cabinets must be installed before drywall because their plaster stops must be behind the drywall. Trimless are not recommended for block wall installation.
  • Deduct 3 ⁄4" from H x W dimensions for cabinets with aluminum door and trim. This does not apply to “FS” fire-rated option.
  • To comply with ADA wall projection guidelines, this cabinet must be mounted with its leading edge at or below 27" from the finished floor

Die-cut letters are state-of-the-art for precise and attractive cabinet identification and have replaced silk screen letters as the industry standard. They are available in standard colors of red, black, or white and the standard designs of vertical, horizontal, or type A. A selection of the more popular styles is pictured below. Custom lettering, special colors, and pictorial graphics also are available, if specified.

VIGILANTE ALARM

Larsen’s exclusive Vigilante Alarm provides additional protection for a cabinet’s life safety contents. The Vigilante can reduce theft losses, help to prolong extinguisher life, and safeguard fire department valves, fire hose, and other equipment. It is constructed of high impact plastic, is plunger activated and includes a heavy-duty 9 volt battery as standard equipment. The on/off jack provides for convenient servicing of the cabinet’s contents by authorized personnel.

Larsens FSAL24095RFG – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What size wall opening do I need to frame for a Larsens AL24095 fire extinguisher cabinet?
Frame the rough opening at 26-1/8 inches high by 11-5/8 inches wide for the AL24095. The finished trim flange covers 27-1/2 by 13 inches, so you get about 11/16 of an inch of flange coverage all around on the height and roughly 11/16 on the width, which hides normal framing tolerance. Inside the box you get 24 inches of height, 9.5 inches of width and 5 inches of depth for the extinguisher.
2) How high can I mount a Larsens Architectural Series extinguisher cabinet and still meet ADA?
Mount it with the leading edge at or below 27 inches from the finished floor. Above that height a projecting cabinet becomes a protruding-object problem under the ADA wall projection guidelines, which is exactly the detail inspectors catch on semi-recessed and surface units. The AL24095 is built to the ADA requirement, but the compliance is only real if the mounting height is right.
3) Which wall depth do I order for the Larsens AL24095, and how do I pick?
Three wall depths are offered: 3-3/4, 4-7/8 and 6-1/8 inches. Pick by how deep your wall cavity actually is. A 3-3/4 inch cabinet in a stud wall sits proud of the face as a semi-recessed unit; 4-7/8 suits a nominal 2x4 wall with finish, and 6-1/8 goes into a deeper or 2x6 partition for a fully recessed look. The extinguisher space does not change with the choice, the inside box is 5 inches deep in every case.
4) Is the Larsens AL24095 fire rated for a one hour or two hour wall?
The AL24095 is the fire rated version of the Architectural Series cabinet. It is the model to use when the cabinet is being cut into a rated partition, since a plain cabinet recessed into a rated wall breaches the assembly. Confirm the rating of the wall on your drawings matches what the fire rated cabinet assembly is listed for before you cut.
5) Why choose an aluminum door cabinet over steel for a fire extinguisher cabinet?
Aluminum is the material Larsens recommends for salt air and other corrosion prone environments, so coastal buildings, pool enclosures, parking structures and wash-down areas are where it earns its keep. The AL prefix on the model number is what specifies the aluminum trim and door; trims are extruded or fabricated aluminum with mitered corners, and clear satin anodized is the standard finish with color anodized available. If corrosion is not a factor, a steel door cabinet with white baked acrylic enamel does the same job.
6) How do you get into a locked Larsens cabinet in an emergency without breaking the glass?
That is what the Larsen-Loc option does. Pull sharply on the handle and the locked door opens, no glass to break, and a factory applied decal reads IN CASE OF FIRE ONLY - PULL FIRMLY ON HANDLE. It works with any door style including a solid metal door, which is the usual pick for gymnasiums and similar spaces where glazing is a liability. Delete the pull handle and decal and the same solid door becomes an institutional door, key access only.
7) Which door style should I pick for a Larsens Architectural Series extinguisher cabinet?
Four styles are offered: full glass, horizontal duo, vertical duo, and solid. Full glass shows the whole extinguisher and reads best in a lobby or corridor where the inspector wants to see the gauge. The duo doors split the face into a glazed panel and a solid panel, which suits a wall where you want the cabinet less prominent. Solid is the choice for gyms, schools and anywhere a ball or a shoulder is going to find the glazing.
8) Can I get a Larsens fire extinguisher cabinet with a lock, and can I stop people taking the extinguisher?
Lock included or not included is an ordering choice on the AL24095. For theft and tampering, the Vigilante alarm is the add-on to specify: high impact plastic, plunger activated, with a heavy duty 9 volt battery included, and an on/off jack so authorized personnel can service the contents without setting it off. It is offered in a standard and a surface mounted version. Pair a lock with the Larsen-Loc if you need the cabinet secured but still openable by hand in a fire.
9) How do I get FIRE EXTINGUISHER lettering and a sign on a Larsens cabinet?
Die-cut letters are the current standard for cabinet identification, having replaced silk screen, and they come in red, black or white in vertical, horizontal or Type A layouts. An international extinguisher symbol decal is available in red or black. Separately from the cabinet lettering, projecting and flat wall signs can be added so the cabinet is visible down a long corridor. Custom lettering, special colors and pictorial graphics are available when specified.
10) What glazing options are there on a Larsens extinguisher cabinet door, and does it matter for a school?
Standard acrylic comes included, with tempered glass and laminated safety glass as upgrades. For schools, healthcare, and high traffic corridors go to tempered or laminated: laminated holds together when broken, which is the reason it gets specified in occupied public spaces. Acrylic is fine for a low traffic office or back-of-house corridor.
11) Should I order a recessed or non-recessed handle on the Larsens cabinet?
Recessed handle keeps the pull inside the door face so nothing sticks out into the corridor, which is the safer choice in a tight egress path or where the cabinet sits at shoulder height in a school. A non-recessed handle is easier to grab with a gloved hand. Either handle style is available on the AL24095, and it is a separate choice from the door style.
