Larsens Architectural Series 2712- 20LB-27 X 12 Capacity - Non Fire Rated - Steel Door

These Architectural Series Cabinets feature a nominal inside box dimension of 27 inches (68.6 cm) height, 12 inches (30.5 cm) width and 8 inches (20.3 cm) depth.

BOX SPECIFICATION: All recessed and semi-recessed cabinets and surface-mounted steel cabinets have a heavy gauge, white baked enamel box. Surface-mounted cabinets with aluminum door and trim have a box constructed entirely of clear or color anodized aluminum. Surface-mounted cabinets with stainless steel door and trim have a box constructed entirely of 304 stainless steel with #4 finish.

TRIM AND DOOR SPECIFICATION: Steel trims and doors are one piece, constructed of cold-rolled steel with a standard finish of white baked acrylic enamel, which can be used as either a finish or prime coat. Aluminum trims are constructed of extruded or fabricated aluminum and all corners are mitered. Aluminum is the recommended material for applications in salt air and other corrosion prone environments. Clear satin anodized finish is standard for all trims and doors, and optional color anodized finishes are available. To specify aluminum trim and door, use the prefix “AL” before the cabinet model number. Stainless steel trims and doors are one piece, constructed of #4 finish, 304 stainless steel. To specify stainless steel trim and door, use the prefix “SS” before the cabinet model number. All steel and stainless steel doors have a tubular, hollow-metal design. Samples of door and trim materials are pictured.

ALL OF THESE DOOR STYLES ARE AVAILABLE WITH EXCLUSIVE LARSEN-LOC® OPTION. The Larsen-Loc® provides access to a locked cabinet, without requiring the breaking of glass. During an emergency, it permits the cabinet door to be opened simply by pulling sharply on the handle. Factory applied decal reads: “IN CASE OF FIRE ONLY – PULL FIRMLY ON HANDLE”. By specifying the Larsen-Loc®, access to a locked cabinet is totally independent of the desired door style and glazing. All door styles can be combined with the Larsen-Loc®, including a solid metal door. The standard Larsen-Loc® on a Solid Door would be appropriate for gymnasiums or any locations where emergency access is required but where any kind of glazing or glazing opening may not be suitable. The Solid Door with Larsen-Loc® also can be specified as an Institutional Door (emergency access only with a key) by deleting the pull handle and decal

  • Inside box depth is 43 ⁄4" when supplied with aluminum door and trim. The AL2409-5R and AL2409-R7 have 11 ⁄4" square trims.
  • Trimless cabinets must be installed before drywall because their plaster stops must be behind the drywall. Trimless are not recommended for block wall installation.
  • Deduct 3 ⁄4" from H x W dimensions for cabinets with aluminum door and trim. This does not apply to “FS” fire-rated option.
  • To comply with ADA wall projection guidelines, this cabinet must be mounted with its leading edge at or below 27" from the finished floor

Die-cut letters are state-of-the-art for precise and attractive cabinet identification and have replaced silk screen letters as the industry standard. They are available in standard colors of red, black, or white and the standard designs of vertical, horizontal, or type A. A selection of the more popular styles is pictured below. Custom lettering, special colors, and pictorial graphics also are available, if specified.

VIGILANTE ALARM

Larsen’s exclusive Vigilante Alarm provides additional protection for a cabinet’s life safety contents. The Vigilante can reduce theft losses, help to prolong extinguisher life, and safeguard fire department valves, fire hose, and other equipment. It is constructed of high impact plastic, is plunger activated and includes a heavy-duty 9 volt battery as standard equipment. The on/off jack provides for convenient servicing of the cabinet’s contents by authorized personnel.

Larsens 2712RAFG – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can I lock a Larsens 2712 cabinet and still get to the extinguisher in an emergency?
Yes, and that is what the Larsen-Loc is for. The 2712 can be ordered with or without a lock, and the Larsen-Loc option works with any door style including solid metal, so a locked cabinet still opens by pulling firmly on the handle. It comes with a factory applied decal reading "IN CASE OF FIRE ONLY - PULL FIRMLY ON HANDLE". If you want key-only access with no public pull, the solid door can be specified as an Institutional Door by deleting the pull handle and decal.
2) What wall depth do I need to recess a Larsens 2712 cabinet?
The 2712 is built to five rough wall depths, 4 inches, 4-1/2 inches, 6 inches, 7-1/4 inches and 8-1/4 inches, plus a surface mounted version for walls you cannot cut into. Pick the depth that matches your stud and finish build-up. If the wall is a block wall or the cabinet is going in after the drywall is up, surface mounted is the one that works.
3) Is the Larsens 2712 cabinet ADA compliant, and how high do I mount it?
ADA compliant, yes, but only if it is installed right. To meet the ADA wall projection guidelines the cabinet must be mounted with its leading edge at or below 27 inches from the finished floor. Mount it higher than that and a projecting cabinet becomes a protruding object, so the height is on the installer, not the box.
4) Is the Larsens 2712 steel door cabinet fire rated?
No. The 2712 with steel door is a non-fire-rated cabinet. If your drawing calls for a cabinet in a rated wall assembly, this is the wrong part and you need Larsens' fire-rated FS option instead. Do not substitute a non-rated box into a rated partition.
5) Which door style should I choose for a gym or a school corridor extinguisher cabinet?
Four door styles are offered on the 2712: full glass, horizontal duo, vertical duo, and solid. For gymnasiums, or anywhere a ball or a shoulder is going to find the door, the solid steel door with the Larsen-Loc is the one to spec. Larsen-Loc lets a locked cabinet open by pulling sharply on the handle, so you get emergency access with no glazing to break. Where visibility of the extinguisher matters more, the full glass or duo doors give you the sight line.
6) What finish do Larsens steel cabinet doors come in, and can I paint them?
The steel trim and door on the 2712 are one piece cold-rolled steel with a standard finish of white baked acrylic enamel, and that enamel can be used as either a finish coat or a prime coat. So you can leave it white or paint it to match the corridor. The box behind it is heavy gauge steel with a white baked enamel finish.
7) What glazing options are there for a fire extinguisher cabinet door in a school or public corridor?
Standard acrylic is included on the 2712's glazed doors, with tempered glass and laminated safety glass available as upgrades. Acrylic takes abuse without shattering and is the usual pick in schools; laminated safety glass holds together when broken and is what gets specified where glass fragments are a liability. If you would rather have no glazing at all in the space, order the solid door.
8) Can I get a trimless recessed extinguisher cabinet, and when do I have to install it?
Trimless cabinets have to be installed before the drywall goes up, because their plaster stops must sit behind the drywall. That makes them a new-construction detail, not a retrofit. Larsens does not recommend trimless for block wall installation. If you are cutting into an existing finished wall, use a trimmed recessed cabinet or a surface mounted one instead.
9) How do I stop extinguishers being taken out of cabinets in a public building?
Larsens' Vigilante Alarm is the add-on for that. It is plunger activated, made of high impact plastic, and includes a heavy-duty 9 volt battery as standard. An on/off jack lets authorized staff service the cabinet contents without setting it off. It can be ordered standard or surface mounted on the 2712. Paired with a lock and the Larsen-Loc pull release, you get theft deterrence without blocking emergency access.
10) What is the difference between recessed and non-recessed handles on a Larsens cabinet?
The 2712 offers both. A recessed handle sits within the door face so nothing sticks out into the corridor, which matters in tight egress paths and high-traffic corridors. A non-recessed handle projects and is easier to grab with a gloved hand. Either way the ADA mounting rule still governs: leading edge at or below 27 inches from the finished floor.
11) How do I get "FIRE EXTINGUISHER" lettering on a Larsens cabinet door?
Die-cut letters are the option to add, available in red, black or white, in vertical, horizontal, or Type A layouts, plus an international extinguisher symbol in red or black. Die-cut has replaced silk screen as the industry standard for cabinet identification. Custom lettering, special colors, and pictorial graphics can also be specified. Separate wall signs and horizontal or vertical decals are ordered alongside if you need identification off the cabinet face as well.
