Larsens Gemini Series G2409-5LB Capacity -Non Fire Rated - Aluminum Frameless Acrylic Door Cabinets

These Gemini Series Cabinets feature a nominal inside box dimension of 24 inches (60.9 cm) height, 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) width and 5 inches (12.7 cm) depth.
GEMINI SERIES GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Larsen’s Gemini Series is an aesthetically designed cabinet line which is identified by an extensive selection of frameless acrylic doors. Gemini cabinets are identical to the Architectural Series, except these units have a frameless door of smooth or textured acrylic in lieu of the conventional hollow-metal door frame. The dimensions of the Gemini Series cabinets are outlined in the table at right. Please refer to page 7 for the appropriate wall installation and trim projection information. The Gemini Series is specified by using the prefix “G” as part of the model number.
DOOR SPECIFICATION: The standard door material is smooth or textured acrylic. If lettering is specified, the design is placed on the back of the door to prevent damage. A selection of the more popular Gemini door styles is pictured below. The complete range of options, however, is outlined in the chart below. The Larsen-Loc® is available with all door styles. All doors have a satin finish pull handle with a self-adjusting roller catch and a continuous piano hinge constructed of material which matches the trim.
  • Inside box depth is 43 ⁄4" when supplied with aluminum door and trim. The AL G2409-5R and AL G2409-R7 have 11 ⁄4" square trims.
  • Trimless cabinets must be installed before drywall because their plaster stops must be behind the drywall. Trimless are not recommended for block wall installation.
  • Deduct 3 ⁄4" from H x W dimensions for cabinets with aluminum trim. This does not apply to “FS” fire-rated option.
  • To comply with ADA wall projection guidelines, this cabinet must be mounted with its leading edge at or below 27" from the finished floor.
  • To comply with ADA wall projection guidelines, this cabinet must be specified with Larsen’s recessed handle

ALL OF THESE DOOR STYLES ARE AVAILABLE WITH EXCLUSIVE LARSEN-LOC® OPTION. The Larsen-Loc® provides access to a locked cabinet, without requiring the breaking of glass. During an emergency, it permits the cabinet door to be opened simply by pulling sharply on the handle. Factory applied decal reads: “IN CASE OF FIRE ONLY – PULL FIRMLY ON HANDLE”. By specifying the Larsen-Loc®, access to a locked cabinet is totally independent of the desired door style and glazing. All door styles can be combined with the Larsen-Loc®, including a solid metal door. The standard Larsen-Loc® on a Solid Door would be appropriate for gymnasiums or any locations where emergency access is required but where any kind of glazing or glazing opening may not be suitable. The Solid Door with Larsen-Loc® also can be specified as an Institutional Door (emergency access only with a key) by deleting the pull handle and decal

Die-cut letters are state-of-the-art for precise and attractive cabinet identification and have replaced silk screen letters as the industry standard. They are available in standard colors of red, black, or white and the standard designs of vertical, horizontal, or type A. A selection of the more popular styles is pictured below. Larsen’s exclusive Vigilante Alarm provides additional protection for a cabinet’s life safety contents. The Vigilante can reduce theft losses, help to prolong extinguisher life, and safeguard fire department valves, fire hose, and other equipment. It is constructed of high impact plastic, is plunger activated and includes a heavy-duty 9 volt battery as standard equipment. The on/off jack provides for convenient servicing of the cabinet’s contents by authorized personnel.

1) What size rough opening do I need to frame for a Larsens G2409 fire extinguisher cabinet?
Frame a 25 inch high by 10.5 inch wide rough opening for the G2409. The wall cavity has to be deep enough for the wall depth you order, and that comes in 3 inch, 4 inch and 5.25 inch. Finished, the trim flange covers 26.75 by 12.25 inches, so the trim laps roughly an inch past the opening on every side and hides normal framing tolerance.
2) Can I recess a Larsens Gemini cabinet in a 2x4 stud wall?
Yes. Order the 3 inch wall depth and the box sits inside a nominal 2x4 partition. The 4 inch and 5.25 inch depths are for 2x6 or furred walls. Pick the depth from the wall you actually have, because the inside box depth of 5 inches is fixed regardless of which wall depth you specify.
3) What do I have to specify on a Larsens G2409 to keep it ADA compliant?
Two things decide it, and both are order-form choices. Specify the recessed handle, and mount the cabinet with its leading edge at or below 27 inches from the finished floor. A not-recessed handle is also offered, so ADA is not automatic just because you bought a G2409.
4) Is the Larsens G2409 fire rated? I need a cabinet for a 1-hour rated corridor wall.
No. The G2409 is a non fire rated cabinet, so it should not be cut into a rated wall assembly. For a rated wall you need Larsen's fire-rated cabinet option, which is a different model configuration with an insulated box. Use the G2409 in non-rated partitions.
5) Can the Larsens G2409 be surface mounted on a block wall?
No. The G2409 is a recessed cabinet, not a surface mount unit, so it needs a wall cavity. If you are working in block or concrete and cannot core a pocket, you need a surface mounted Gemini cabinet instead. Also note the trimless version has to go in before drywall, since its plaster stops sit behind the board, and trimless is not recommended for block wall work at all.
6) How do I get into a locked Larsens fire extinguisher cabinet in an emergency without breaking the door?
Specify the Larsen-Loc option. It lets a locked cabinet be opened by pulling sharply on the handle, no glass breaking, and it ships with a decal reading "IN CASE OF FIRE ONLY - PULL FIRMLY ON HANDLE". It works with any door style, including a solid metal door, which is the usual call for gymnasiums or anywhere glazing is a liability. Delete the pull handle and decal and the same solid door becomes an institutional door, key access only.
7) What is the difference between a Larsens Gemini cabinet and the Architectural Series?
They are the same cabinet box. The Gemini uses a frameless smooth or textured acrylic door instead of the conventional hollow-metal door frame the Architectural Series uses. Gemini models carry a "G" prefix in the model number, which is what the G in G2409 means. Pick Gemini when you want the frameless acrylic look; pick Architectural when you want a metal-framed door.
