Larsens Gemini Series 24096R-10LB Capacity -Non Fire Rated - Aluminum Surface Mountes Frameless Acrylic Door Cabinets

These Gemini Series Cabinets feature a nominal inside box dimension of 24 inches (60.9 cm) height, 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) width and 6 inches (15.2 cm) depth.
GEMINI SERIES GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Larsen’s Gemini Series is an aesthetically designed cabinet line which is identified by an extensive selection of frameless acrylic doors. Gemini cabinets are identical to the Architectural Series, except these units have a frameless door of smooth or textured acrylic in lieu of the conventional hollow-metal door frame. The dimensions of the Gemini Series cabinets are outlined in the table at right. Please refer to page 7 for the appropriate wall installation and trim projection information. The Gemini Series is specified by using the prefix “G” as part of the model number.
DOOR SPECIFICATION: The standard door material is smooth or textured acrylic. If lettering is specified, the design is placed on the back of the door to prevent damage. A selection of the more popular Gemini door styles is pictured below. The complete range of options, however, is outlined in the chart below. The Larsen-Loc® is available with all door styles. All doors have a satin finish pull handle with a self-adjusting roller catch and a continuous piano hinge constructed of material which matches the trim.
  • Inside box depth is 43 ⁄4" when supplied with aluminum door and trim. The AL G2409-5R and AL G2409-R7 have 11 ⁄4" square trims.
  • Trimless cabinets must be installed before drywall because their plaster stops must be behind the drywall. Trimless are not recommended for block wall installation.
  • Deduct 3 ⁄4" from H x W dimensions for cabinets with aluminum trim. This does not apply to “FS” fire-rated option.
  • To comply with ADA wall projection guidelines, this cabinet must be mounted with its leading edge at or below 27" from the finished floor.
  • To comply with ADA wall projection guidelines, this cabinet must be specified with Larsen’s recessed handle

ALL OF THESE DOOR STYLES ARE AVAILABLE WITH EXCLUSIVE LARSEN-LOC® OPTION. The Larsen-Loc® provides access to a locked cabinet, without requiring the breaking of glass. During an emergency, it permits the cabinet door to be opened simply by pulling sharply on the handle. Factory applied decal reads: “IN CASE OF FIRE ONLY – PULL FIRMLY ON HANDLE”. By specifying the Larsen-Loc®, access to a locked cabinet is totally independent of the desired door style and glazing. All door styles can be combined with the Larsen-Loc®, including a solid metal door. The standard Larsen-Loc® on a Solid Door would be appropriate for gymnasiums or any locations where emergency access is required but where any kind of glazing or glazing opening may not be suitable. The Solid Door with Larsen-Loc® also can be specified as an Institutional Door (emergency access only with a key) by deleting the pull handle and decal

Die-cut letters are state-of-the-art for precise and attractive cabinet identification and have replaced silk screen letters as the industry standard. They are available in standard colors of red, black, or white and the standard designs of vertical, horizontal, or type A. A selection of the more popular styles is pictured below. VIGILANTE ALARM

Larsen’s exclusive Vigilante Alarm provides additional protection for a cabinet’s life safety contents. The Vigilante can reduce theft losses, help to prolong extinguisher life, and safeguard fire department valves, fire hose, and other equipment. It is constructed of high impact plastic, is plunger activated and includes a heavy-duty 9 volt battery as standard equipment. The on/off jack provides for convenient servicing of the cabinet’s contents by authorized personnel.

1) Can I order a Larsens Gemini cabinet with no trim, and what is the catch?
Trimless is offered on the Gemini 24096R alongside 4 inch and 4.5 inch trim. The catch is sequencing: a trimless cabinet has to go in before the drywall, because its plaster stops sit behind the board. Miss that window on a renovation and you cannot install it. Larsens also does not recommend trimless for block wall installation. If the walls are already closed or you are working in CMU, order the 4 inch or 4.5 inch trim instead.
2) How do I get into a locked fire extinguisher cabinet in an emergency without breaking the glass?
That is what the Larsen-Loc is for. Pull sharply on the handle and the locked door opens, no glass breakage and no key. It comes with a factory-applied decal reading "IN CASE OF FIRE ONLY - PULL FIRMLY ON HANDLE". It works with every Gemini door style and any glazing, so choosing it does not constrain your door selection. On a solid metal door it is the answer for gyms and similar spaces where you want emergency access but no glazing at all, and that same solid door can be built as an Institutional Door, key-only access, by deleting the pull handle and the decal.
3) Should I use a surface mounted or a recessed fire extinguisher cabinet?
Surface mounted is what you use when you cannot open the wall: concrete or CMU block, a thin stud cavity, or an existing finished wall you are not tearing into. It bolts to the face and the whole box projects into the room, which is why the 27 inch leading-edge rule and the recessed handle matter for a corridor. Recessed or semi-recessed buries some or all of the box in the wall and projects less, but you need the cavity depth and the wall has to be open. The Gemini 24096R is offered across surface mounted plus 2 inch, 2-1/2 inch and 6-1/2 inch wall depth configurations, so pick the wall depth that matches the cavity you actually have.
4) What is the difference between the Larsens Gemini Series and the Architectural Series cabinets?
The box is the same. Gemini cabinets are identical to the Architectural Series except for the door: Gemini uses a frameless smooth or textured acrylic door in place of the conventional hollow-metal door frame. If you want the cleaner frameless look, Gemini is the line, and it is identified by a "G" prefix in the model number. If you want a metal-framed door, that is the Architectural Series.
5) How do I stop fire extinguishers being stolen out of cabinets in my building?
Two options on the Gemini 24096R, and they solve different problems. A lock is orderable on the cabinet, which stops casual access outright. The Vigilante Alarm is the better answer for theft and walk-off: it is a plunger-activated high impact plastic unit that sounds when the door is opened, runs on a heavy-duty 9 volt battery included as standard, and has an on/off jack so your service tech can silence it while working the cabinet. Larsens offers it in a standard and a surface mounted version. It also covers fire department valves and hose, not just extinguishers.
6) Does the Larsens Gemini cabinet come with a hinge and catch, or do I have to buy hardware separately?
Hardware is on the door as built. Every Gemini door has a satin finish pull handle, a self-adjusting roller catch, and a continuous piano hinge made of material matching the trim. Nothing separate to order for the door to hang and latch. What you do add on the order form is the identification and access package: signs, decals, a fire handle, die-cut lettering, the lock, and the Vigilante Alarm if you want it.
7) What door colors can I get on the Larsens Gemini 24096R, and will lettering wear off?
Four door choices: Black, Red, White, and a Clear Door. Clear or a colored acrylic is the usual call depending on whether you want the extinguisher visible from the corridor. Lettering will not rub off in service, because when lettering is specified the design is applied to the back of the door to protect it. Identification is die-cut letters in red, black or white, in vertical, horizontal or Type A layouts, or the International Extinguisher Symbol in red or black.
