Larsens Gemini Series 24096R-10LB Capacity -Non Fire Rated - Stainless Steel Frameless Acrylic Door Cabinets

These Gemini Series Cabinets feature a nominal inside box dimension of 24 inches (60.9 cm) height, 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) width and 6 inches (15.2 cm) depth.
GEMINI SERIES GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Larsen’s Gemini Series is an aesthetically designed cabinet line which is identified by an extensive selection of frameless acrylic doors. Gemini cabinets are identical to the Architectural Series, except these units have a frameless door of smooth or textured acrylic in lieu of the conventional hollow-metal door frame. The dimensions of the Gemini Series cabinets are outlined in the table at right. Please refer to page 7 for the appropriate wall installation and trim projection information. The Gemini Series is specified by using the prefix “G” as part of the model number.
DOOR SPECIFICATION: The standard door material is smooth or textured acrylic. If lettering is specified, the design is placed on the back of the door to prevent damage. A selection of the more popular Gemini door styles is pictured below. The complete range of options, however, is outlined in the chart below. The Larsen-Loc® is available with all door styles. All doors have a satin finish pull handle with a self-adjusting roller catch and a continuous piano hinge constructed of material which matches the trim.
  • Inside box depth is 43 ⁄4" when supplied with aluminum door and trim. The AL G2409-5R and AL G2409-R7 have 11 ⁄4" square trims.
  • Trimless cabinets must be installed before drywall because their plaster stops must be behind the drywall. Trimless are not recommended for block wall installation.
  • Deduct 3 ⁄4" from H x W dimensions for cabinets with aluminum trim. This does not apply to “FS” fire-rated option.
  • To comply with ADA wall projection guidelines, this cabinet must be mounted with its leading edge at or below 27" from the finished floor.
  • To comply with ADA wall projection guidelines, this cabinet must be specified with Larsen’s recessed handle

ALL OF THESE DOOR STYLES ARE AVAILABLE WITH EXCLUSIVE LARSEN-LOC® OPTION. The Larsen-Loc® provides access to a locked cabinet, without requiring the breaking of glass. During an emergency, it permits the cabinet door to be opened simply by pulling sharply on the handle. Factory applied decal reads: “IN CASE OF FIRE ONLY – PULL FIRMLY ON HANDLE”. By specifying the Larsen-Loc®, access to a locked cabinet is totally independent of the desired door style and glazing. All door styles can be combined with the Larsen-Loc®, including a solid metal door. The standard Larsen-Loc® on a Solid Door would be appropriate for gymnasiums or any locations where emergency access is required but where any kind of glazing or glazing opening may not be suitable. The Solid Door with Larsen-Loc® also can be specified as an Institutional Door (emergency access only with a key) by deleting the pull handle and decal

Die-cut letters are state-of-the-art for precise and attractive cabinet identification and have replaced silk screen letters as the industry standard. They are available in standard colors of red, black, or white and the standard designs of vertical, horizontal, or type A. A selection of the more popular styles is pictured below. Larsen’s exclusive Vigilante Alarm provides additional protection for a cabinet’s life safety contents. The Vigilante can reduce theft losses, help to prolong extinguisher life, and safeguard fire department valves, fire hose, and other equipment. It is constructed of high impact plastic, is plunger activated and includes a heavy-duty 9 volt battery as standard equipment. The on/off jack provides for convenient servicing of the cabinet’s contents by authorized personnel.

1) Will the Larsens Gemini 24096R hold a 10 lb fire extinguisher?
Yes. The Gemini 24096R is sized for a 10 lb extinguisher, with a nominal inside box of 24 inches high, 9.5 inches wide and 6 inches deep. That 6 inch depth is the number to check against your extinguisher's valve and gauge, since the door is frameless acrylic and sits close to the box face.
2) Is the Larsens Gemini 24096R fire rated? I need a cabinet for a 1-hour rated corridor wall.

4) Is the Larsens Gemini 24096R a recessed or surface mounted cabinet?
Recessed. The 24096R is a recessed unit, not surface mounted, so you need a wall cavity that will take it. Pick the wall depth to match your construction: 2, 2-1/2, 3, 4, 5, or 6-1/4 inches are the available depths. If the wall will not take a recess, this is the wrong configuration for the opening.
5) What trim size should I order on a Larsens Gemini recessed extinguisher cabinet?
Trim comes in 5/16, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4, and 4.5 inches. The trim covers the gap between the box and the finished wall face, so the size follows your wall build-up: the 5/16 inch is effectively the trimless look and the wider trims cover rougher or thicker finishes. One thing to plan around, the trimless version has to go in before drywall because its plaster stops sit behind the board, and it is not recommended for block wall.
6) What is the Larsen-Loc option on a Gemini cabinet and should I get it with a lock?
Larsen-Loc lets someone open a locked cabinet in an emergency without breaking glazing, by pulling sharply on the handle. It carries a factory decal reading IN CASE OF FIRE ONLY - PULL FIRMLY ON HANDLE. It works with every Gemini door style, including a solid metal door. This is the usual answer for a building where you want the extinguisher secured against theft but still reachable in seconds. The 24096R is ordered with a lock included or not included.
7) What is the difference between the Larsens Gemini series and the Architectural series cabinets?
They are the same cabinet body. The Gemini uses a frameless acrylic door, smooth or textured, in place of the Architectural series conventional hollow-metal door frame. Choose Gemini when the architect wants a clean glazed face with no metal door frame reading on the wall; choose Architectural when you want the framed metal door. Gemini models are identified by the G prefix in the model number.
8) How do I stop people walking off with the extinguisher out of a Larsens cabinet?
Two ways, and they stack. Order the cabinet with a lock, and add the Vigilante alarm. The Vigilante is a plunger-activated high impact plastic alarm with a heavy-duty 9 volt battery included, and it has an on/off jack so your service tech can open the cabinet for monthly checks without setting it off. It is available standard or surface mounted.
