Larsens Gemini Series 24096R-10LB Capacity -Fire Rated - Steel Frameless Acrylic Door Cabinets

These Gemini Series Cabinets feature a nominal inside box dimension of 24 inches (60.9 cm) height, 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) width and 6 inches (15.2 cm) depth.
GEMINI SERIES GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Larsen’s Gemini Series is an aesthetically designed cabinet line which is identified by an extensive selection of frameless acrylic doors. Gemini cabinets are identical to the Architectural Series, except these units have a frameless door of smooth or textured acrylic in lieu of the conventional hollow-metal door frame. The dimensions of the Gemini Series cabinets are outlined in the table at right. Please refer to page 7 for the appropriate wall installation and trim projection information. The Gemini Series is specified by using the prefix “G” as part of the model number.
DOOR SPECIFICATION: The standard door material is smooth or textured acrylic. If lettering is specified, the design is placed on the back of the door to prevent damage. A selection of the more popular Gemini door styles is pictured below. The complete range of options, however, is outlined in the chart below. The Larsen-Loc® is available with all door styles. All doors have a satin finish pull handle with a self-adjusting roller catch and a continuous piano hinge constructed of material which matches the trim.
  • Inside box depth is 43 ⁄4" when supplied with aluminum door and trim. The AL G2409-5R and AL G2409-R7 have 11 ⁄4" square trims.
  • Trimless cabinets must be installed before drywall because their plaster stops must be behind the drywall. Trimless are not recommended for block wall installation.
  • Deduct 3 ⁄4" from H x W dimensions for cabinets with aluminum trim. This does not apply to “FS” fire-rated option.
  • To comply with ADA wall projection guidelines, this cabinet must be mounted with its leading edge at or below 27" from the finished floor.
  • To comply with ADA wall projection guidelines, this cabinet must be specified with Larsen’s recessed handle

ALL OF THESE DOOR STYLES ARE AVAILABLE WITH EXCLUSIVE LARSEN-LOC® OPTION. The Larsen-Loc® provides access to a locked cabinet, without requiring the breaking of glass. During an emergency, it permits the cabinet door to be opened simply by pulling sharply on the handle. Factory applied decal reads: “IN CASE OF FIRE ONLY – PULL FIRMLY ON HANDLE”. By specifying the Larsen-Loc®, access to a locked cabinet is totally independent of the desired door style and glazing. All door styles can be combined with the Larsen-Loc®, including a solid metal door. The standard Larsen-Loc® on a Solid Door would be appropriate for gymnasiums or any locations where emergency access is required but where any kind of glazing or glazing opening may not be suitable. The Solid Door with Larsen-Loc® also can be specified as an Institutional Door (emergency access only with a key) by deleting the pull handle and decal

Die-cut letters are state-of-the-art for precise and attractive cabinet identification and have replaced silk screen letters as the industry standard. Larsen’s exclusive Vigilante Alarm provides additional protection for a cabinet’s life safety contents. The Vigilante can reduce theft losses, help to prolong extinguisher life, and safeguard fire department valves, fire hose, and other equipment. It is constructed of high impact plastic, is plunger activated and includes a heavy-duty 9 volt battery as standard equipment. The on/off jack provides for convenient servicing of the cabinet’s contents by authorized personnel.

1) What size rough opening do I need to frame for a Larsens 24096R fire extinguisher cabinet?
Frame for a 26.125 inch rough opening height. The cabinet's inside box is 24 inches high by 9.5 inches wide by 6 inches deep, and the outside trim flange covers 27.5 inches high by 13 inches wide once it is in. Because the 24096R is a recessed cabinet, not surface mounted, the wall has to be opened up and deep enough to take the box before the trim lands.
2) Can you lock a Larsens fire extinguisher cabinet and still get the extinguisher out in an emergency?
That is what the Larsen-Loc option is for. A locked Gemini cabinet with the Larsen-Loc opens by pulling sharply on the handle, no glass to break, and it ships with a decal reading IN CASE OF FIRE ONLY - PULL FIRMLY ON HANDLE. It works with every door style, including a solid metal door, which is the usual answer for gymnasiums and anywhere glazing is a liability. Order the lock as Included or Not Included depending on whether the cabinet is in a public corridor or a controlled space.
3) What do I have to specify to keep the Larsens Gemini cabinet ADA compliant?
Two things, and both are order decisions. Specify the recessed handle option, and mount the cabinet so its leading edge sits at or below 27 inches from the finished floor. The Gemini offers handle style as Recessed or Not Recessed; picking Not Recessed on a wall where the cabinet projects into a circulation path defeats the ADA wall projection allowance. The 24096R is an ADA cabinet when ordered and mounted that way.
4) How do I pick the right trim and wall depth on a Larsens Gemini recessed cabinet?
Wall depth is set by your actual wall construction, and trim width by how much flange you want covering the opening. The Gemini 24096R offers wall depths of 3-3/8, 4, 4-7/8, 5-7/8 and 7-1/8 inches, and trim widths of 5/16, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4 and 4.5 inches. Measure finished wall thickness first, then choose the trim: the 5/16 inch is effectively trimless, and trimless cabinets have to go in before the drywall because the plaster stops sit behind it. Trimless is not recommended in block wall.
5) What is the difference between the Larsens Gemini Series and the Architectural Series cabinets?
The box is the same. Gemini cabinets are identical to the Architectural Series except the door: Gemini uses a frameless acrylic door, smooth or textured, instead of the conventional hollow-metal door frame. Pick Gemini when the architect wants the clean frameless look in a finished lobby or corridor; pick the framed metal door where the opening takes abuse. Gemini models are identified by a G prefix in the model number.
6) How do I get the cabinet marked FIRE EXTINGUISHER for an inspection?
Die-cut lettering is the standard way, and it is an order option on the Gemini cabinet. Choose vertical, horizontal, or Type A layout in red, white, or black, or the International Extinguisher Symbol in red or black. Die-cut has replaced silk screen as the industry standard, and custom lettering, special colors, and pictorial graphics can be specified. Separate wall signs and decals are also selectable if your AHJ wants a projecting or flag sign in addition to the cabinet marking.
7) Is there a way to stop people taking the extinguisher out of a Larsens cabinet?
