The PVC Schedule 40 90-degree street elbow is used in cold water pressure distribution systems including irrigation, pool and spa, potable water and chilled water applications. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is the most frequently specified of all thermoplastic materials because of its light weight, durability and cost-effectiveness. PVC Schedule 40 is easy to install and is joined by solvent cementing or threading. PVC fittings exhibit high corrosion and chemical resistance and will not rust, scale, pit or corrode. NIBCO® plastic fittings are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco L06720Y – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Nibco 4607 PVC street elbow threaded or solvent weld?
Threaded on both ends. The Nibco 4607 is an M x F street elbow, meaning one end is male thread (MIPT) and the other is female thread (FIPT), so it threads directly onto a male pipe nipple or valve outlet and accepts a male thread coming back the other way. There is no socket to cement. If you need a solvent weld socket connection, this is the wrong fitting.
2) What pipe sizes does the Nibco 4607 90 degree PVC street elbow come in?
Six sizes: 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2 and 2 inch. The part numbers run L06700Y for 1/2 inch, L06710Y for 3/4, L06720Y for 1 inch, L06730Y for 1-1/4, L06740Y for 1-1/2 and L06750Y for 2 inch. All are straight size, so the male and female ends are the same nominal size on a given fitting.
3) Can I use this PVC elbow on a hot water line?
No. The Nibco Schedule 40 PVC street elbow is a cold water pressure fitting with a maximum service temperature of 140 degrees F. It is meant for irrigation, pool and spa, potable cold water and chilled water. Hot water distribution needs a different material, not Schedule 40 PVC.
4) Is this PVC fitting approved for potable drinking water?
Yes. The 4607 street elbow is certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and is NSF U.P. certified, and it is listed as a lead-free application fitting, which is what a potable water spec calls for. It is also used in irrigation and commercial and residential plumbing systems.
5) Can I use this PVC fitting on a compressed air line?
No. Nibco states plainly not to test or use these plastic fittings with compressed air or other gases. They are rated for liquid cold water pressure service only. Using PVC on air is a rupture hazard and voids the intended service.
6) Why use a street elbow instead of a regular 90 degree elbow here?
A street elbow has one male end and one female end, so it turns 90 degrees directly off a valve, pump port or male-threaded nipple without adding a second nipple between them. That saves a joint and keeps the turn tight where space is short, common on irrigation manifolds and pool equipment pads. A standard elbow with two female ends needs a nipple on each side.
7) Will this Nibco elbow meet a spec calling for ASTM D2466 Schedule 40 PVC?
The fitting is Schedule 40 PVC manufactured to ASTM D2466, with material to ASTM D1784 cell class 12454. That is the standard pair of callouts on a plumbing or irrigation submittal for rigid PVC fittings. Color is white.
8) Do I need thread sealant or primer and cement for these Nibco street elbows?
Threaded joints, so no primer or solvent cement is involved on this fitting. Threaded PVC connections are made up with a sealant suited to plastic thread, and Nibco publishes plastic fittings installation instructions covering the joining method. Order the sealant separately; nothing is packed with the elbow.
9) Will this PVC elbow corrode or rust in a buried irrigation line?
PVC does not rust, scale, pit or corrode, and it carries high chemical resistance, which is why it is the usual choice for buried irrigation and for pool and spa lines where chlorinated water attacks metal fittings.
