The PVC DWV soil pipe adapter features a hub x hub connection and connects PVC DWV pipe and soil pipe. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is the most frequently specified of all thermoplastic materials because of its light weight, durability, and cost-effectiveness. PVC DWV is easy to install and is joined by solvent cementing or threading. PVC fittings exhibit high corrosion and chemical resistance and will not rust, scale, pit or corrode. NIBCO® plastic fittings are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco K009000 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What pipe sizes does the Nibco 4800 soil pipe adapter come in?
Three sizes: 2 inch (K009000), 3 inch (K009050) and 4 inch (K001400). All are straight size, meaning the PVC and soil pipe ends match, so a 3 inch adapter goes between 3 inch PVC DWV and 3 inch soil pipe. There is no reducing version, so if you are changing size you need a separate reducer in the run.
2) Can I use a PVC soil pipe adapter on a hot water or steam drain line?
No. Maximum service temperature for this PVC DWV adapter is 140 degrees F. Intermittent household drainage discharge is what it is built for. Anything running continuously hotter than that needs a different material. It must also never be tested or used with compressed air or other gases.
3) Does the Nibco 4800 soil pipe adapter meet plumbing code standards for a commercial job?
It is made to ASTM D2665 for PVC DWV fittings, certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 14, and carries NSF U.P. certification. Nibco lists it for both commercial and residential plumbing systems.
4) Is the 4800 adapter Schedule 40, and will it work with my Schedule 40 PVC DWV pipe?
Yes. The fitting is Schedule 40 PVC, so it mates with standard Schedule 40 PVC DWV pipe of the same nominal size. Joints are made by solvent cementing.
5) Should I use a soil pipe adapter or a no-hub coupling to tie PVC into cast iron?
A soil pipe adapter like the Nibco 4800 is the fitting when you want the PVC solvent welded straight into a hub connection at the transition. A shielded no-hub coupling is the alternative when you are working on plain-end cast iron or need the joint to be removable later. The 4800 is hub x hub, so it suits hub-type soil pipe rather than plain spigot ends.
6) What do I need on hand to install the Nibco 4800 adapter?
The adapter ships as the fitting alone. You supply PVC primer and solvent cement for the PVC hub, and whatever the soil pipe side calls for at that joint. Nibco publishes plastic fittings installation instructions and technical data sheets covering cure times and joining procedure.
7) Will this PVC adapter corrode or rust in a buried or damp drain application?
PVC will not rust, scale, pit or corrode, and it resists chemicals attacking the drain line, which is why it is common in retrofit work replacing failing cast iron. It is white in color.
