The ABS DWV soil pipe adapter features a hub x spigot connection and connects ABS DWV pipe and soil pipe. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) is resistant to a wide variety of materials ranging from sewage to commercial household chemical formulations and can be exposed to a wide temperature span. ABS is lightweight, safe to handle and easy to install. ABS DWV is joined by solvent cementing or threading and can easily be connected to steel, copper, or cast iron through the use of transition fittings. NIBCO® plastic fittings are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco I038550 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does a Nibco 5805 soil pipe adapter actually connect to?
The Nibco 5805 joins ABS DWV pipe to soil pipe. One end is a hub (socket) that takes ABS DWV pipe, the other is a spigot sized to drop into a soil pipe hub. Both plastic ends are solvent weld, so the ABS side is cemented, not threaded.
2) Can I use this ABS adapter on a pressure or compressed air line?
No. The 5805 is a drain, waste and vent fitting only, and Nibco states plainly not to test or use it with compressed air or other gases. Keep it on gravity DWV service.
3) What standards does the Nibco 5805 ABS DWV adapter meet?
It is listed to ASTM D2665, ASTM D2661 and D3311, CSA B181.1, NSF/ANSI Standard 14, and it is NSF U.P. Certified. It also carries a UL listing for 94V-0 flammability. That set is what an inspector or a spec writer on an institutional job will be looking for.
4) Can I tie ABS drain into existing cast iron with this?
That is the job it is built for. The spigot end goes into the soil pipe hub and the ABS side solvent welds to your new pipe. Nibco notes ABS DWV connects to steel, copper or cast iron through transition fittings, and this soil pipe adapter is one of them. The joint at the soil pipe hub still gets caulked or packed per your local code.
5) What sizes does the Nibco 5805 ABS adapter come in?
Six size configurations: 2 inch, 3 inch and 4 inch straight, plus reducing combinations 1-1/2 x 2, 1-1/2 x 3, and 3 x 4. The reducing sizes let you step from a smaller ABS branch into a larger soil pipe hub without a separate bushing.
6) What temperature range can this ABS DWV fitting handle?
Service temperature runs from -40 F to 180 F. That covers normal sanitary drainage and vent duty, including intermittent hot discharge from fixtures and laundry. It is not suited to sustained high temperature process waste above that range.
7) Is the Nibco 5805 black ABS or white PVC?
Black ABS. If the rest of the drain line on the job is white PVC DWV, this is the wrong material to cement into it, and you want a PVC soil pipe adapter or a proper ABS-to-PVC transition instead.
8) Do I need to order anything else to install this adapter?
Yes, ABS solvent cement for the hub joint, since the plastic end connection is solvent weld and no gasket or nut is supplied with the fitting. Whatever the soil pipe hub requires on the spigot side (gasket or lead and oakum) is also separate. Nibco publishes plastic fittings installation instructions for the joining procedure.
