The ABS DWV soil pipe adapter features a hub x hub connection and connects ABS DWV pipe and soil pipe. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) is resistant to a wide variety of materials ranging from sewage to commercial household chemical formulations and can be exposed to a wide temperature span. ABS is lightweight, safe to handle and easy to install. ABS DWV is joined by solvent cementing or threading and can easily be connected to steel, copper, or cast iron through the use of transition fittings. NIBCO® plastic fittings are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco I009000 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the Nibco 5800 soil pipe adapter actually connect?
The Nibco 5800 is an ABS DWV soil pipe adapter that joins ABS DWV pipe to cast iron soil pipe. Both ends are hubs (H x H), so the ABS side takes pipe solvent cemented into the socket and the other hub accepts the soil pipe spigot. It is a straight size, soil pipe type adapter in Schedule 40 ABS.
2) Do I glue the Nibco 5800 adapter or does it thread on?
The ABS hub is a solvent weld connection, so it is cemented to the pipe with ABS solvent cement, not threaded. Nibco publishes Plastic Fittings Installation Instructions for joining procedure.
3) Can this ABS DWV adapter be used on a pressure or compressed air line?
No. The 5800 is a drain, waste and vent fitting only, and Nibco states it must not be tested or used with compressed air or other gases. Keep it on gravity DWV service.
4) Does the Nibco 5800 meet plumbing code standards for a DWV system?
It is made to ASTM D2665 and ASTM D3965, certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF U.P. certified, listed to CSA B181.1, and UL Listed 94V-0 for flammability. Those are the markings an inspector looks for on ABS DWV fittings in both commercial and residential work.
5) What temperature range can the ABS soil pipe adapter handle?
Service temperature runs from -40 F to 180 F. That covers normal sanitary drainage and vent duty, including cold crawlspace and attic runs, but it rules out continuous high temperature discharge above 180 F.
6) Will this adapter work in a building with PVC drain lines?
The 5800 is ABS, black in color, and the hub is sized for ABS DWV pipe using ABS solvent cement. It is not the fitting for a PVC system. For a transition from ABS to copper, steel or cast iron, Nibco's ABS DWV line uses transition fittings for that purpose, and this soil pipe adapter is the cast iron soil pipe transition.
7) Is a soil pipe adapter the right fitting for tying new ABS into an existing cast iron stack, or should I use a no-hub coupling?
If the existing stack ends in a cast iron hub or spigot and you are running ABS off it, this soil pipe adapter is the purpose built transition, cemented to the ABS on one side with the soil pipe received in the other hub. A shielded no-hub coupling is the choice when you are joining two plain cut ends of different materials rather than working into a hub. Match the adapter to line size: 2, 3 or 4 inch.
