The ABS DWV soil pipe adapter features a hub x no hub end connection and connects ABS DWV pipe and soil pipe. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) is resistant to a wide variety of materials ranging from sewage to commercial household chemical formulations and can be exposed to a wide temperature span. ABS is lightweight, safe to handle and easy to install. ABS DWV is joined by solvent cementing or threading and can easily be connected to steel, copper, or cast iron through the use of transition fittings. NIBCO® plastic fittings are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco I041050 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How does the Nibco 5805-N ABS soil pipe adapter connect to cast iron?
The 5805-N is a hub x no hub adapter. The hub end takes ABS DWV pipe and is solvent welded; the no hub end is a plain spigot that slips into a no hub coupling with a shielded neoprene gasket to join cast iron soil pipe. That is what makes it a transition fitting between plastic DWV and cast iron. The no hub coupling and clamps are a separate purchase.
2) Will this ABS adapter fit Schedule 40 DWV pipe?
Yes. The 5805-N is a Schedule 40 fitting, so the hub socket is sized for standard Schedule 40 ABS DWV pipe of the matching nominal size. Clean and prime per the pipe maker's instructions, then solvent cement with ABS cement.
3) Can I use this fitting on a commercial building drain, or is it residential only?
Both. The 5805-N is listed for commercial and residential plumbing on drain, waste and vent systems. It carries CSA B181.1, ASTM D2665, ASTM D3965, ASTM D2661 and D3311, UL Listed 94V-0, NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF U.P. Certification, which is the paperwork most inspectors and spec writers ask for on a DWV fitting.
4) What temperature range can ABS DWV fittings handle, and can I pressure test with air?
Service range is -40 F to 180 F, so it handles hot kitchen and laundry discharge as well as cold crawlspace and unheated runs. Do not test or use the system with compressed air or other gases. Water test only.
5) Is this adapter black ABS or white PVC, and can I glue it to PVC pipe?
It is black ABS, molded from acrylonitrile butadiene styrene. Join it with ABS pipe and ABS cement. It is not a PVC fitting, so if your DWV line is white PVC you want the PVC version of the soil pipe adapter instead, not this one.
6) I am replacing a section of cast iron stack with ABS. What do I need besides the pipe?
You need a soil pipe adapter at each point where the new plastic meets the remaining cast iron. Size the 5805-N to the stack, 3 inch or 4 inch for most vertical stacks, 2 inch for branch and vent work. Add ABS solvent cement for the hub side and a no hub shielded coupling for the spigot side. If the plastic and the iron are different nominal sizes, the reducing versions, 1-1/2 x 2 and 3 x 4, save you a bushing.
7) Will ABS drain fittings hold up to drain cleaners and sewage?
ABS resists a wide range of materials from sewage to common commercial and household chemical formulations, which is why it is used for building drain and waste lines. It is also light and easy to handle, so it goes in faster overhead than cast iron on a repipe.
