The PVC DWV soil pipe adapter features a hub x no hub end connection and connects PVC DWV pipe and soil pipe. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is the most frequently specified of all thermoplastic materials because of its light weight, durability, and cost-effectiveness. PVC DWV is easy to install and is joined by solvent cementing or threading. PVC fittings exhibit high corrosion and chemical resistance and will not rust, scale, pit or corrode. NIBCO® plastic fittings are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco K041050 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) How do you connect PVC DWV pipe to existing cast iron soil pipe?
The Nibco 4805N soil pipe adapter is made for exactly that transition. One end is a solvent weld hub that takes Schedule 40 PVC DWV pipe, and the other is a no-hub spigot end that goes into a no-hub coupling with the cast iron. You cement the PVC side and band-clamp the iron side. It's the standard way to tie new plastic drainage into an older cast iron stack without threading anything.
2) What sizes does the Nibco 4805N soil pipe adapter come in?
Four: 2 inch, 3 inch, 4 inch, and a 3 x 4 inch reducing version. The 3 x 4 is the one to order when you're bringing a 3 inch PVC branch into a 4 inch cast iron line, so you don't need a separate bushing at the joint. Order by size, not by fitting count, since the reducer replaces two fittings on that transition.
3) Can I use a PVC soil pipe adapter on a pressure line or an air test?
No. The 4805N is a drain, waste and vent fitting only, and Nibco states plainly not to test or use it with compressed air or other gases. DWV fittings are not pressure rated. If you're pressure testing the system, use water. For any supply or pressure application you need a different fitting family altogether.
4) Will a PVC DWV adapter pass inspection on a commercial job?
The 4805N is manufactured to ASTM D2665 and D3311, certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 14, and carries NSF U.P. certification for use in drain, waste and vent systems. It's rated for both commercial and residential plumbing. Those are the marks an inspector looks for on a plastic DWV fitting, and D3311 is the dimensional standard that keeps the fitting laying out the same as any other conforming DWV fitting.
5) Is a PVC soil pipe adapter OK on a hot waste line from a commercial dishwasher or laundry?
Watch the temperature. Maximum service temperature on the 4805N is 140 degrees F. Ordinary fixture and laundry discharge is fine. A commercial dishwasher or a sterilizer drain can run above that, and PVC DWV is the wrong material for those lines. If the discharge exceeds 140 degrees you need a high-temperature drainage material, not this fitting.
6) Does the no-hub end on the 4805N need a coupling, or does it clamp on its own?
The no-hub end is a plain spigot. It needs a no-hub coupling, the shielded band type, to make the joint, and that coupling is a separate purchase. Only the solvent weld hub side is a complete connection on its own once cemented. Budget one coupling per adapter when you're pulling material for the job.
7) Do I need primer and cement for the hub side of the 4805N, or can it be threaded?
The hub side is solvent weld, so it's cemented. PVC DWV joins by solvent cementing or threading, but this fitting's socket is a cement joint, and neither primer nor cement is included. Buy PVC primer and DWV-rated solvent cement separately, sized for the pipe diameter you're running.
8) Will a white PVC adapter match the rest of my DWV piping?
White, which is the standard color for PVC DWV in North America and matches white Schedule 40 PVC drainage pipe and fittings. If the building's existing drainage is black ABS, this isn't a color match, and more importantly PVC and ABS are different materials that need a proper transition rather than a cemented joint between them.
9) Will PVC drainage fittings corrode in a below-slab or wet installation?
PVC won't rust, scale, pit or corrode, and it holds up against chemical attack, which is why it's used underslab and in corrosive waste applications where cast iron gives up. That's also the practical argument for the 4805N: it lets you stop the cast iron above grade and run plastic where the corrosion is happening.
