The PVC DWV repair coupling features a hub x hub connection without a stop and repairs and/or connects lengths of PVC DWV piping. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is the most frequently specified of all thermoplastic materials because of its light weight, durability, and cost-effectiveness. PVC DWV is easy to install and is joined by solvent cementing or threading. PVC fittings exhibit high corrosion and chemical resistance and will not rust, scale, pit or corrode. NIBCO® plastic fittings are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco K010850 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What makes a repair coupling different from a regular PVC DWV coupling?
The Nibco 4801-RP is a no-stop coupling: there is no internal shoulder inside the hub, so it slides completely onto one pipe end. That is what lets you cut into an existing drain line and splice in a repair section without pulling the pipe apart. A standard coupling has a center stop, which means both pipe ends have to be free to move into it. Slide the 4801-RP fully onto one side, then back it over the joint and center it before the cement sets.
2) How do the ends connect, and do I need cement or is it threaded?
Both ends are hub, solvent weld. You cut the pipe square, deburr, prime and cement it in place. Nothing threads and no gaskets or clamps are involved, so you will need PVC primer and PVC (or DWV-rated) solvent cement on the job; neither ships with the fitting.
3) Can I use this coupling on a pressure water line or an air line?
No. The 4801-RP is a DWV fitting for drain, waste and vent only, not a pressure-rated part. Nibco states plainly that it must not be tested or used with compressed air or other gases. For supply piping you need a pressure-rated PVC or CPVC system, not DWV.
4) What pipe sizes does the Nibco 4801-RP repair coupling come in?
Five sizes: 1-1/2 inch, 2 inch, 3 inch, 4 inch and 6 inch. That covers typical lavatory and tub arms at 1-1/2 and 2 inch, branch waste and vent stacks at 3 inch, building drain at 4 inch, and 6 inch for larger commercial mains. Order by Nibco part number: K010800 (1-1/2 inch), K010850 (2 inch), K010900 (3 inch), K010950 (4 inch), K011005 (6 inch).
5) Can I solvent weld this white PVC coupling to black ABS drain pipe?
No. This is PVC, and PVC solvent cement does not bond to ABS. Where a repair crosses from ABS to PVC you need a transition method rated for it, typically a mechanical shielded coupling, not a solvent weld fitting. The 4801-RP is white PVC on both hubs.
6) How hot can the drain line get before this coupling is a problem?
Maximum service temperature is 140 degrees F. That is fine for normal household and most commercial sanitary drainage, but it rules out lines carrying sustained high-temperature discharge, such as some commercial dishwasher, sterilizer or boiler blowdown waste. For those a higher temperature material is required.
7) Is this coupling acceptable for a commercial building drain, or just residential?
Both. Nibco lists it for commercial and residential plumbing, it is NSF U.P. Certified, and it meets ASTM D2665 and D3311, which is the specification language most plumbing inspectors and DWV drawings call out for PVC drainage fittings.
8) I need to join two different pipe sizes on a drain repair. Will this coupling reduce?
No, the 4801-RP is straight size only, same hub size on both ends. To change size on a DWV line you need a reducing coupling or a bushing in the sizes you are joining. Pick the 4801-RP size to match the pipe you are splicing: 1-1/2, 2, 3, 4 or 6 inch.
9) Is a no-stop repair coupling the right fix for a cracked drain line, or should I use a rubber shielded coupling?
For a solvent welded PVC DWV line where you are cutting out a bad section and putting in a new piece of PVC, the 4801-RP no-stop coupling gives you a permanent, solvent welded joint in the same material as the rest of the system, and it is smooth-bore so it does not catch waste. A mechanical shielded coupling is the alternative when you are joining dissimilar materials or cannot get cement to cure on a wet line. Inside an all-PVC Schedule 40 DWV system, solvent welding is the cleaner repair.
