The PVC DWV female adapter features a hub x female NPT thread connection and provides a means for adapting a solvent weld connection to a threaded connection. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is the most frequently specified of all thermoplastic materials because of its light weight, durability, and cost-effectiveness. PVC DWV is easy to install and is joined by solvent cementing or threading. PVC fittings exhibit high corrosion and chemical resistance and will not rust, scale, pit or corrode. NIBCO® plastic fittings are backed by a 5-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco K024700 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) How does the Nibco 4803 PVC DWV female adapter connect on each end?
One end is a solvent weld hub that cements over PVC DWV pipe, the other is a female NPT thread. That combination lets you transition a glued DWV line to a threaded male fitting, like a trap adapter, cleanout plug, or a threaded nipple. The hub side gets PVC primer and solvent cement; the threaded side is made up mechanically with tape or thread sealant.
2) Will this Nibco adapter fit Schedule 40 PVC DWV pipe?
Yes, it is a Schedule 40 DWV fitting, so the hub is sized to standard Sch 40 PVC DWV pipe OD for that nominal size. The material is PVC throughout, so it solvent welds to PVC pipe with PVC cement. It will not bond to ABS with standard PVC cement.
3) Does the Nibco 4803 meet code for a commercial drainage system?
It is made to ASTM D2665 and D3311, certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 14, and carries the NSF U.P. (Uniform Plumbing) certification. Nibco lists it for both commercial and residential plumbing, so it will satisfy the usual inspector ask on a DWV rough-in. Always confirm your local amendment on plastic DWV in commercial occupancies.
4) What pipe sizes does the Nibco 4803 female adapter come in?
Six sizes: 1-1/4, 1-1/2, 2, 3, 4 and 6 inch. Part numbers run K024400 for 1-1/4 inch, K024500 for 1-1/2 inch, K024700 for 2 inch, K024950 for 3 inch, K025100 for 4 inch and K025300 for 6 inch. Size refers to the nominal pipe size on both the hub and the female thread.
5) Should I use a female adapter or a male adapter on my PVC drain line?
Use the 4803 female adapter when the mating part has male NPT threads, since it gives you a female thread out of the glued hub. If the mating part is a female threaded port, such as a threaded tapping in a cast iron fitting or a female trap adapter, you want a male adapter instead (hub x MIPT). Both glue the same way on the hub side; the difference is only which thread you need facing the connection.
6) Do I need to thread the plastic connection tight on a PVC female adapter?
No, and over-tightening is the common failure. The threaded end on the 4803 is PVC, so a male metal thread wedged in hard can split the socket. Hand tight plus a turn or two with sealant is the practice. Nibco's plastic fittings installation instructions cover the joining detail for both the solvent weld and the threaded side.
7) Is a 4 inch or 6 inch PVC female adapter available for a building drain tie-in?
Yes. The 4803 runs up to 6 inch, with 4 inch as K025100 and 6 inch as K025300, both Schedule 40 DWV. Those are the sizes typically used on building drains and main stacks where a threaded cleanout or transition is needed off a glued line.
8) What color is the Nibco 4803 adapter, and will it match my existing DWV fittings?
White, which is the standard PVC DWV color and matches typical white PVC drain lines. If the existing piping in the building is black ABS, this is the wrong material to tie into directly with cement.
