1) What pipe sizes does the Nibco 4806 PVC DWV 45-degree elbow come in?
The 4806 hub x hub 45 elbow runs 1-1/4, 1-1/2, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 12 inch, plus two reducing versions, 8 x 4 inch and 8 x 6 inch. The reducing sizes are the ones to reach for when you are stepping a stack down into a smaller branch without adding a separate bushing.
2) Does the Nibco 4806 elbow glue on, or does it thread?
Both ends are hubs, so the pipe slides into the socket and you solvent cement it. There are no threads on this fitting. If you need a threaded transition at this point in the run, you want a different fitting, not this one.
3) Will a 45-degree PVC DWV elbow fit Schedule 40 PVC pipe?
Yes. The 4806 is a Schedule 40 DWV fitting, so its hubs take standard Schedule 40 PVC pipe of the matching nominal size. Order by the pipe's nominal size, not by measured outside diameter.
4) Can I use this 45-degree elbow on a pressure water line?
No. The 4806 is a drain, waste and vent fitting only. DWV fittings are not built for pressure service, and Nibco is explicit that it must never be tested or used with compressed air or other gases. For supply piping you need a pressure-rated fitting instead.
5) Does the Nibco 4806 meet plumbing code for potable-adjacent drainage work?
The 4806 is manufactured to ASTM D2665 and D3311, certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 14, and carries NSF U.P. certification for use in drain, waste and vent systems. Those are the listings an inspector looks for on a DWV fitting, and they cover both commercial and residential plumbing use.
6) Should I use a 45-degree elbow or a 90 on a drain line?
A 45, also called a 1/8 bend, changes direction gently and keeps flow moving, which is why two 45s are commonly used in place of a hard 90 on horizontal drainage and on offsets around framing. A 90 turns the flow abruptly and is generally kept to vertical-to-horizontal transitions where code allows a long sweep. Where you have room, the 4806 pair is the cleaner way to jog a line.
7) How hot can waste water get through a PVC DWV elbow?
Maximum service temperature is 140 degrees F. That covers normal residential and commercial sanitary drainage, including dishwasher and laundry discharge. A line carrying sustained higher-temperature waste, such as some commercial kitchen or process discharge, needs a different material.
8) Will this match the white PVC drain fittings already in my building?
The 4806 is white PVC, the standard color for DWV fittings, so it blends with existing white PVC drain and vent piping in a multi-family or commercial building. Note it will not match black ABS drain lines, which are a different material and cannot be solvent cemented to PVC with the same cement.
9) What is the difference between the 8 inch and the 8 x 4 inch Nibco 4806 elbow?
The straight 8 inch, MPN K042500 through K042850 by size, has both hubs the same size. The 8 x 4 inch, MPN K042900, and the 8 x 6 inch, MPN K042950, are reducing 45s: the larger hub takes 8 inch pipe and the smaller hub takes 4 or 6 inch. Order the reducing version when the branch leaving the turn is a smaller line, and you skip a bushing joint.
10) What else do I need to install a Nibco 4806 45-degree elbow?
The elbow ships as the fitting alone. You supply the PVC primer and solvent cement rated for the pipe size, plus whatever hangers or supports the run calls for. Nothing is threaded and no gaskets are involved, so the joint is cement only.
11) Do PVC drain fittings corrode or rust in a slab or crawlspace?
No. PVC will not rust, scale, pit or corrode, and it holds up to the chemicals that go down a drain line. That is the usual reason it gets specified over metal for buried and concealed DWV runs.
