1) What does the Nibco 4806-2 spigot x hub connection mean, and which end goes where?
The 4806-2 is a street elbow: one end is a spigot, sized like pipe so it slips directly into the hub of another DWV fitting, and the other end is a hub that accepts pipe or a spigot. That lets you turn 45 degrees straight off a fitting with no short nipple of pipe between them, which is what saves you room in a tight joist bay or behind a wall. 5) How hot can the water be through a PVC DWV elbow, and can I run a dishwasher or laundry drain into it?
Maximum service temperature is 140 degrees F. Normal residential dishwasher and washing machine discharge sits under that, so it is a standard PVC DWV application. What it will not take is sustained boiling water or a commercial process line running hotter than 140 F; that calls for a different material.
6) Should I use a 45-degree elbow or a 90 for a drain line offset?
Use the 45 wherever you can. A 45 degree bend, also called a 1/8 bend, changes direction with far less flow disruption than a 90, which is why two 45s are the standard way to build a horizontal offset in a waste line and why 45s are preferred at the base of a stack and on horizontal-to-horizontal turns. Reserve the 90 for vertical-to-horizontal drops where the code and the fixture layout call for it. The street version of the 45 saves you a cut of pipe when you are stacking bends together.
