1) Can I use a Nibco 4807-V 90-degree elbow on a drain line, or is it vent only?
Vent only. The 4807-V is built as a vent fitting with an abrupt 90 degree turn (1/4 bend), which is fine on the dry venting side of a DWV system but wrong on the drainage side, where an abrupt change of direction restricts flow. For a horizontal-to-vertical drain turn, use a long sweep or a sanitary elbow instead. Nibco lists this one under vent, straight size.
2) Does the 4807-V vent elbow glue on or thread on?
Both ends are hubs, so pipe slips inside and gets solvent cemented. There are no threads on either end and no gasket. If you need a threaded connection at that point, put a male or female adapter downstream of the elbow rather than trying to thread into it. PVC DWV joins by solvent cementing or threading, and this fitting is the cemented kind.
3) Will a Nibco PVC DWV vent elbow mate with Schedule 40 PVC pipe I already have on the job?
Yes, it is a Schedule 40 DWV fitting, so it sockets over standard Schedule 40 PVC DWV pipe of the matching nominal size. Same white PVC, same OD, cemented with the usual PVC primer and cement. It is not for pressure pipe service and not for compressed air or other gases.
4) Is this PVC vent elbow approved for commercial work, or residential only?
Both. Nibco lists this vent elbow for commercial and residential plumbing, and it is made to ASTM D2665 and D3311, certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 14 and NSF U.P. Certified. Those are the marks an inspector or a spec writer on an institutional job is looking for on a DWV fitting.
5) What pipe sizes does the Nibco 4807-V vent elbow come in?
Six sizes: 1-1/2, 2, 3, 4, 10 and 12 inch. The small end covers typical fixture and branch vents, and the 10 and 12 inch sizes are there for large commercial stacks. Order by pipe size, for example K053400 for the 2 inch and K053700 for the 4 inch. All of them are hub x hub, so you size to the pipe OD you are cementing into.
6) How hot can waste get through a PVC DWV vent elbow before it is a problem?
140 degrees F is the maximum service temperature. That covers normal fixture and vent duty, but it rules it out downstream of anything dumping sustained near-boiling water, such as some commercial kitchen or laundry equipment. For those runs you need a higher temperature material, not PVC DWV.
7) Will this PVC elbow corrode or rust in a damp mechanical room or a chemical waste vent?
PVC will not rust, scale, pit or corrode, and it holds up to corrosive and chemical exposure, which is why it gets specified in damp mechanical spaces and on aggressive vent work. It is also light enough to hang on long overhead runs without heavy support hardware.
