The ABS DWV flush closet flange features a pipe stop and fits inside 4-inch DWV pipe and over 3-inch DWV pipe. The closet flange is secured to the floor of the dwelling so that a toilet can be affixed to it and allow for a pipe connection (under the floor) to continue the piping for evacuation of the used water. Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) is resistant to a wide variety of materials ranging from sewage to commercial household chemical formulations and can be exposed to a wide temperature span. ABS is lightweight, safe to handle and easy to install. ABS DWV is joined by solvent cementing or threading and can easily be connected to steel, copper, or cast iron through the use of transition fittings. The 5853 is ABS and is joined by solvent cementing to ABS DWV pipe. Gluing ABS to PVC is not an ABS-to-ABS solvent weld, so for a PVC stack use a PVC flange or a proper transition. ABS DWV does connect to steel, copper or cast iron through transition fittings.
2) How does the 5853 closet flange connect to the drain pipe, glue or thread?
Solvent weld. The 5853 is a hub/spigot fitting with a built-in pipe stop, so you cement it to ABS DWV pipe with ABS solvent cement. There is no threaded or compression connection on it.
