Nibco 9213550 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What size copper pipe does the Nibco 624 tube strap fit?
The 624 tube strap is made in ten sizes, one per tube size: 1/8, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2 and 2 inch. Each size is its own part number, so order by the tube you're strapping. Common ones on residential and light commercial copper are 1/2 inch (MPN 9213400) and 3/4 inch (MPN 9213500). The strap is sized to the copper tube it clamps, not to a fastener size.
2) Do Nibco 624 tube straps come with screws or nails?
No fasteners are included. The strap has mounting holes and you supply the nail or screw to suit what you're fastening into, wood stud, plate, or blocking. Plan the anchor separately for masonry or metal stud work.
3) Can I use a copper tube strap on a potable water line?
Yes. The 624 is lead-free and listed for residential and commercial plumbing, so it's usable on potable copper. Its other rated uses are compressed air, fire protection, heating, HVAC, industrial, irrigation and med-gas, which is why it turns up on multi-trade jobs where one strap covers several systems.
4) Will a Nibco 624 tube strap work on refrigerant or ACR line sets?
Yes, ACR air conditioning and refrigeration is one of its stated applications, along with HVAC generally. For a line set, size the strap to the tube OD you're clamping, and note the smaller sizes (1/8, 1/4, 3/8, 5/8) exist specifically because ACR and small-diameter runs need them.
5) What's the difference between a tube strap and a clevis hanger or pipe clamp for copper?
A tube strap like the 624 is a two-hole strap that pins the tube flat against a surface, a stud, joist, plate or wall. It's for fastening a run to structure, not for hanging it off one. If the pipe has to drop below a deck or joist on a rod, that's a clevis hanger or a ring hanger job instead. Use the strap where the run follows framing; use a hung support where the run stands off from it.
6) I'm strapping a 1-1/2 inch copper waste or 2 inch riser. Does Nibco make the 624 that big?
2 inch is the top of the range. The 624 goes to 1-1/2 inch (MPN 9213650) and 2 inch (MPN 9213700), and stops there. Anything above 2 inch copper needs a different support product.
7) Are Nibco copper tube straps acceptable for a LEED or sustainable-build spec?
They're solid copper, C12200, and Nibco points to copper's reusability as what makes it work on sustainable projects. The fittings line is manufactured in an ISO 9001 certified facility. For a distributor or spec buyer standardizing a copper package, the strap material matches the tube and fittings rather than introducing a plated or plastic component into the assembly.
8) How do I order the right Nibco 624 by part number?
Order by tube size, since each size carries its own MPN: 1/8 is 9213250, 1/4 is 9213300, 3/8 is 9213350, 1/2 is 9213400, 5/8 is 9213450, 3/4 is 9213500, 1 inch is 9213550, 1-1/4 is 9213600, 1-1/2 is 9213650 and 2 inch is 9213700. There is no handing, finish or fastener option to specify, size is the only variable.
