The tee features female NPT threads on the run and a solder cup on the branch. This fitting allows for a connection to be made in continuous pipeline and branch out to a different direction while adapting from a threaded connection to a solder connection. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. In addition to its inherent qualities of beauty, durability and low maintenance, copper's reusability makes it an ideal application in sustainable projects. NIBCO® copper fittings are manufactured in an ISO 9001 certified facility, and backed by a 50-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco B090700 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What do the three ends on the Nibco 710-3 tee connect to?
The 710-3 is an F x F x C tee: female NPT threads on both run ends and a solder cup on the branch. So the run threads onto male-threaded pipe or nipples, and the branch takes copper tube that you sweat in. It's the fitting to use when you're running threaded pipe and need to break off into copper in a different direction.
2) What sizes does the Nibco 710-3 tee come in?
Three configurations: 1/2 inch all around (B090700), 3/4 inch all around (B090900), and a reducing 3/4 x 3/4 x 1/2 (B091000) where the run is 3/4 inch threaded and the branch is a 1/2 inch solder cup. If you're branching a smaller copper line off a 3/4 inch threaded run, the B091000 is the one.
3) Can I use this bronze tee on a potable water line?
No. Nibco states that use of the 710-3 in U.S. drinking water applications is prohibited after January 3, 2014. It's a C84400 bronze alloy casting, so it belongs on non-potable work. For potable domestic water, specify a lead-free fitting instead.
4) What systems is the Nibco 710-3 threaded-to-solder tee approved for?
Nibco lists it for commercial plumbing, fire protection, heating, HVAC, industrial, irrigation, and residential plumbing. Given the drinking-water restriction, in practice that means hydronic heating, chilled water, fire lines, irrigation, and process piping rather than domestic potable runs.
5) Is this tee made of brass or cast bronze, and will it hold up in a system with aggressive water?
It's a cast bronze fitting, ASTM B584 Alloy C84400, and Nibco calls it dezincification resistant. That matters in heating and irrigation loops where a high-zinc brass fitting can lose zinc over time and fail at the threads.
6) What standard does the Nibco 710-3 tee meet?
Material and workmanship are per ASME B16.18, the standard covering cast copper alloy solder-joint pressure fittings. Nibco also notes these are made in an ISO 9001 certified facility. If your drawing calls out B16.18 cast fittings, the 710-3 meets that callout.
7) Is the branch on this tee a solder cup or a female thread?
Branch is a solder cup that accepts copper tube; only the two run ends are female NPT. If you need the branch threaded instead, the 710-3 is the wrong configuration for you and you want a different end arrangement than F x F x C.
8) Do I need to protect the solder branch when sweating this tee onto threaded pipe?
Yes, heat management is the thing to watch. The branch is a solder cup while both run ends are female threads, so make up the threaded joints first with the appropriate sealant, then sweat the branch. Nibco publishes copper fitting installation instructions along with technical data sheets for the joining procedure.
