The tee features a solder cup and female NPT threads on the run and a solder cup on the branch. This fitting allows for a connection to be made in continuous pipeline and branch out to a different direction while adapting from a solder connection to a threaded connection. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. In addition to its inherent qualities of beauty, durability and low maintenance, copper's reusability makes it an ideal application in sustainable projects. NIBCO® copper fittings are manufactured in an ISO 9001 certified facility, and backed by a 50-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco B160200 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can I use the Nibco 714 bronze tee on potable water lines?
No. The 714 cast bronze tee is an ASTM B584 Alloy C84400 fitting, and use in U.S. drinking water applications has been prohibited since January 3, 2014. Keep it to non-potable service such as hydronic heating, HVAC, fire protection, irrigation, or industrial process lines. If you need a tee on a potable water branch, specify a lead-free potable-rated copper or bronze fitting instead.
2) What connections does the Nibco 714 C x F x C tee have, and what do I need to make them up?
It is a combination fitting: the run carries a solder cup plus female NPT threads, and the branch is a solder cup. So one leg gets threaded male pipe or a male adapter with thread sealant or PTFE tape, and the solder ends get cleaned, fluxed and soldered to type K, L or M copper tube. That lets you tie into a continuous copper line and pick up a threaded component, like a pump, valve or gauge, without an extra adapter.
3) What pipe sizes does the Nibco 714 tee come in, including reducing versions?
Straight sizes run 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1-1/4, 1-1/2 and 2 inch. Reducing combinations are 1/2 x 3/4 x 1/2, 3/4 x 1/2 x 3/4, 1 x 3/4 x 1, 1 x 1/2 x 1, 1-1/4 x 3/4 x 1-1/4, 1-1/4 x 1/2 x 1-1/4, 1-1/2 x 3/4 x 1-1/2, 2 x 3/4 x 2 and 2 x 1/2 x 2. Note that several reducers, such as 1/2 x 3/4 x 1/2, step up rather than down, which is how you pick up a larger threaded takeoff off a smaller line.
4) Is this tee cast bronze or wrought copper, and does that matter for a threaded branch?
Cast bronze. That is the right choice where a fitting has to carry female NPT threads, because a wrought copper fitting cannot hold usable pipe thread the way a cast bronze body can. The alloy is dezincification resistant, which matters on heating and closed-loop systems where water chemistry attacks lower-grade brass.
5) Does the Nibco 714 tee meet ASME B16.18 for a spec job?
Yes. Material and workmanship are per ASME B16.18, the standard for cast copper alloy solder joint pressure fittings, with the alloy called out as ASTM B584 C84400. If your drawing specifies B16.18 cast fittings, this satisfies that line, but confirm the non-potable restriction on the alloy fits the system you are piping.
6) I need to branch off a copper main and land a threaded gauge or valve. Is this the right fitting?
That is exactly what a C x F x C tee does. You solder it into the existing run, and the female NPT port takes the threaded device directly, so there is no separate male adapter or union to buy. It is used on commercial and residential plumbing, heating, HVAC, fire protection, irrigation and industrial systems, with the one limit being U.S. potable water.
7) Can I press or thread both ends of this tee instead of soldering?
No. Two of the three ends are solder cups, so they must be sweated with flux and solder; there is no press feature and no seal on those ports. Only the run's female NPT port accepts a threaded connection. If you want an all-press installation, choose a press-fit tee rather than this solder pressure fitting.
8) What is the exact Nibco part number for a 3/4 inch 714 tee?
The 3/4 inch straight 714 is MPN B159850. If you need the 3/4 inch run with a 1/2 inch leg, that is 3/4 x 1/2 x 3/4, MPN B159950. The 1/2 inch straight is B159450 and the 1 inch straight is B160200, which is useful when you are ordering a mixed quantity for a riser.
