The drop tee features solder cups and mounting ears. This fitting allows for a connection to be made in continuous pipeline and branch out to a different direction. The ears allow the fitting to be secured to a wall or ceiling support using a nail or screw. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. In addition to its inherent qualities of beauty, durability and low maintenance, copper's reusability makes it an ideal application in sustainable projects. NIBCO® copper fittings are manufactured in an ISO 9001 certified facility, and backed by a 50-year limited warranty. Because of its longstanding reputation for innovation and precision in design and manufacturing, NIBCO is the preferred brand in the industry.

Nibco B13210L – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is a drop ear tee used for on a copper water line?
A drop ear tee like the Nibco 711-5-LF lets you branch off a continuous run and anchor the fitting at the same time. The two mounting ears take a nail or screw into a wall stud, blocking, or ceiling support, so the branch outlet stays put under load. That is what you want where a fixture supply comes out of the wall and the stub needs to stay rigid rather than float on the tubing.
2) Are all three openings on the Nibco 711-5-LF solder cups, or is one threaded?
All three are solder cups. The end connection is C x C x C, meaning copper solder socket on the run inlet, the run outlet, and the branch. Nothing on this fitting is threaded, so if you need a threaded female branch for a shower arm or a hose bibb, this is the wrong tee and you want a C x C x FIPT drop ear version instead.
3) What size copper pipe does the Nibco 711-5-LF fit?
It is a 1/2 inch straight-size tee, so all three cups take 1/2 inch nominal copper tube. There is no reducing outlet on it, which means it will not serve as a 3/4 x 3/4 x 1/2 branch takeoff. For that you need a reducing tee.
4) Can I use this Nibco tee on a hydronic heating or chilled water loop, or is it domestic water only?
Its listed system uses cover commercial plumbing, residential plumbing, heating, HVAC, fire protection, industrial, and irrigation. So a baseboard heat loop or an HVAC piping run is within scope, same as a domestic cold line. Refer to NIBCO technical data sheets for pressure and temperature ratings on your specific application.
5) Does this Nibco drop ear tee meet the fitting standard called out on my plumbing drawings?
It is built to ASME B16.18, the design standard for cast copper alloy solder joint pressure fittings, and it is manufactured in an ISO 9001 certified facility. If the spec on the drawing reads B16.18 solder pressure fittings, lead-free, this meets it.
6) Do I solder a drop ear tee before or after fastening it to the framing?
Solder it first, off the stud, then screw or nail the ears down. The ears are there to anchor the fitting to a wall or ceiling support, and heating the body with fasteners already driven makes it harder to keep the joint aligned while the solder sets. Nibco publishes copper fitting installation instructions covering joint prep and heating.
7) Is this Nibco fitting suitable for a LEED or sustainable construction project?
Copper's reusability makes it well suited to sustainable projects, and this fitting is lead-free Silicon Performance Bronze carrying NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 and 372. Those are the certifications most green building and public-water specs ask for on a potable fitting.
