1) What sizes does the Nibco 811 DWV tee come in?
The Nibco 811 cast DWV tee is offered in six configurations: straight 3 inch and 4 inch, plus reducing branches 3 x 3 x 2, 3 x 3 x 1-1/2, 4 x 4 x 3, and 4 x 4 x 2. Order by MPN: E098700 (3 inch), E098800 (3x3x2), E098850 (3x3x1-1/2), E099200 (4 inch), E099250 (4x4x3), and E099300 (4x4x2). All three openings are solder cups.
2) Is the Nibco 811 tee threaded or does it get soldered to copper DWV pipe?
It solders. All three openings on the 811 are C x C x C, meaning copper solder cups that slip over the outside of the tube and are sweated with solder. There is no threaded port on this fitting, so if you need to transition to threaded pipe you will need a separate adapter at that point.
3) Can I use a Nibco 811 DWV tee on a pressurized water line?
No. The 811 is a DWV fitting, built for drain, waste and vent service only. DWV fittings are not rated for pressure systems. For supply piping you need a pressure-rated copper fitting instead.
4) Which 811 tee do I use to bring a 2 inch branch into a 3 inch stack?
Use the 3 x 3 x 2 reducing tee, MPN E098800. The two run ends take 3 inch copper DWV tube and the branch cup takes 2 inch. If the branch is 1-1/2 inch instead, go to E098850. For a 2 inch branch off a 4 inch stack, it is E099300.
5) What material is the Nibco 811 DWV tee made from, and will it hold up in aggressive water?
It is a cast bronze fitting, ASTM B584 alloy C84400, and it is dezincification resistant. That alloy choice is what keeps it from losing zinc and failing in water chemistry that attacks ordinary brass. Material and workmanship follow ASME B16.23.
6) Is the Nibco 811 acceptable for commercial jobs or is it residential only?
Both. The 811 cast DWV tee is specified for commercial and residential plumbing, and Nibco manufactures its copper fittings in an ISO 9001 certified facility, which is usually what a spec section is asking for on institutional work.
7) What does a DWV tee do that an elbow or wye will not?
A tee keeps a continuous run intact while taking a branch off to one side. The 811 gives you that in a single cast body: two in-line cups for the main and a third for the branch. An elbow changes direction of the whole line rather than branching it. Pick the reducing versions when the branch is smaller than the run.
8) Is copper DWV a reasonable choice for a green building project?
