1) What sizes does the Nibco 812 DWV long turn tee-wye come in?
The Nibco 812 tee-wye is made in straight sizes of 1-1/4, 1-1/2, 2 and 3 inch, plus two reducing configurations: 2 x 2 x 1-1/2 inch and 3 x 3 x 2 inch. The reducing versions are what you use when the branch line is smaller than the run, such as picking up a 1-1/2 inch lavatory or kitchen branch off a 2 inch stack.
2) Are the Nibco 812 tee-wye connections solder or press?
All three openings are solder cups, C x C x C, so the fitting slips over the outside of copper DWV tube and gets brazed or soldered. There is no press, thread or no-hub end on it. If your job is spec'd for press fittings you need a different fitting family.
3) Is a long turn tee-wye the right fitting for a horizontal drain branch, or should I use a sanitary tee?
Use the long turn tee-wye where you are branching a drain line and want the flow swept into the run. The 812 turns through 90 degrees (a 1/4 bend) on a long radius, and that sweep improves takeaway of waste water and gives you a fitting you can rod through. A sanitary tee has a much shorter turn and is normally reserved for vertical-to-horizontal connections. For horizontal-to-horizontal drainage the long turn tee-wye is the fitting to reach for.
4) Will the Nibco 812 solder cups fit standard copper DWV tube?
Yes. The cups are sized to ASME B16.23, the dimensional standard for cast copper alloy solder joint DWV fittings, so nominal copper DWV tube in the matching size slides straight into the cup. Order by nominal pipe size: for a reducing branch, the third number is the branch, so 3 x 3 x 2 inch runs 3 inch with a 2 inch takeoff.
5) What is the Nibco 812 tee-wye actually made of, and will it hold up in aggressive water?
It is a cast bronze fitting, ASTM B584 alloy C84400, and it is dezincification resistant, which is what matters where water chemistry attacks the zinc in lower-grade brass. Material and workmanship follow ASME B16.23. Copper and bronze DWV also scores well on reuse for sustainable projects.
6) Can I use the Nibco 812 tee-wye on a vent line as well as a waste line?
Yes. The 812 is a DWV fitting, rated for drain, waste and vent service, and it is used in both commercial and residential plumbing. It is not a pressure fitting, so keep it out of potable supply or hydronic piping.
7) Does the Nibco 812 come with solder or flux?
No. The 812 tee-wye ships as the bare cast bronze fitting only. You supply the solder or brazing alloy, flux, and any cleaning abrasives, and the joint is made per Nibco's copper fittings installation instructions.
