The external bushing features a male solder end and a solder cup. The fitting provides a means of reducing the size of a line. Please refer to NIBCO technical data sheets and catalogs for engineering and installation information. In addition to its inherent qualities of beauty, durability and low maintenance, copper's reusability makes it an ideal application in sustainable projects. NIBCO® copper fittings are manufactured in an ISO 9001 certified facility, and backed by a 50-year limited warranty. Nibco H013150 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does Ftg x C mean on the Nibco 901-2 DWV bushing?
Ftg x C means one end is a fitting (male) solder end that slips into a copper fitting's cup, and the other end is a solder cup (female) that accepts copper tube. On the 901-2 the large male end drops into the socket of an existing DWV fitting, and the smaller cup takes the reduced tube size. That is what makes it an external bushing rather than one that sits inside a hub.
2) What pipe size reductions does the Nibco 901-2 DWV bushing come in?
Three reductions: 1-1/2 inch by 1-1/4 inch, 2 inch by 1-1/2 inch, and 2 inch by 1-1/4 inch. The first number is the fitting (male) end that goes into the larger fitting socket, the second is the cup that takes the smaller tube.
3) Can I use this copper bushing on a pressure water line, or is it drain only?
Drain, waste and vent only. The 901-2 is a DWV fitting, built to ASME B16.29 for drainage tube, not to the pressure fitting standard. For a reducing connection on potable or hydronic pressure copper, use a pressure-rated wrot copper reducer or bushing instead.
4) Is a DWV external bushing the right way to reduce a line, or should I use a reducing coupling?
Use the 901-2 external bushing when you already have a fitting with a full-size cup, a sanitary tee or elbow hub, and need to drop the tube size coming out of it. The male end plugs into that existing socket, so you do not add a separate coupling and you do not lose length. If you are joining two runs of loose tube with nothing to socket into, a reducing coupling is the simpler part. Either way this bushing only reduces; it does not change direction.
5) How do I order the right Nibco 901-2 bushing by part number?
Order by the reduction. H013050 is the 1-1/2 x 1-1/4, H013150 is the 2 x 1-1/2, and H013200 is the 2 x 1-1/4. Size is the only thing that varies on the 901-2; end configuration is Ftg x C solder on all three.
6) Will this bushing work on a press or push-fit DWV system?
No. Both ends of the 901-2 are solder ends, so the joint has to be sweated with torch, flux and solder. There is no press bead and no O-ring, and nothing about it adapts to a press or push-connect fitting.
7) Is the Nibco 901-2 bushing approved for commercial jobs or just residential?
Both. Nibco lists the 901-2 for commercial and residential plumbing, and the fittings are made in an ISO 9001 certified facility. Same part either way, spec'd on drainage, waste and vent lines.
