1) Will the Nibco 901-2-F flush bushing let me drop a 2 inch DWV copper line down to 1-1/2 inch?
That is exactly what it does. The 901-2-F is sold in a 2 inch by 1-1/2 inch size, with a Ftg (male solder) end that slips into a 2 inch fitting cup and a solder cup that accepts 1-1/2 inch copper DWV tube. It reduces the line size without adding a hub, so the transition sits flush inside the fitting it enters.
2) Can I use this Nibco bushing on a pressure water line, or is it drain only?
Drain, waste and vent only. The 901-2-F is a DWV fitting, built to ASME B16.29 for drainage tube, not to the pressure fitting standard. For potable hot and cold water runs use a pressure copper reducer or bushing instead.
3) What does Ftg x C mean on a copper DWV bushing?
Ftg is a fitting (male) end sized to slip into another fitting's cup, and C is a female solder cup that receives tube. On the Nibco 901-2-F that means the 2 inch side plugs into an existing 2 inch fitting socket and the 1-1/2 inch side takes tube. If you need a bushing that seats over tube on both sides instead, a Ftg end is the wrong choice.
4) What copper alloy is the 901-2-F made from, and will it hold up in an aggressive drain?
It is wrought copper, ASTM B75 alloy C12200, and dezincification resistant because there is no zinc in the alloy to leach out. That is the same base material as the DWV tube it solders to, so you get no dissimilar metal issue at the joint.
5) Is this bushing approved for commercial work or just residential?
Both. The 901-2-F is listed for commercial and residential plumbing, and since it is wrought copper to ASME B16.29 it is the ordinary spec-grade DWV reducer for a multi-family or institutional riser as much as a house drain.
