1) Will the Nibco PC-FP600A-LF press ball valve work on my existing copper water lines?
Yes, on copper tube. The PC-FP600A-LF is a female press x female press valve, so it slides over the copper tube ends and gets crimped with a press tool and the correct jaw or chain for the size. No soldering, no threading. It runs 1/2 inch up through 4 inch. One thing to be clear on: it is a water valve and is not intended for gas use.
2) How do I know the press joint on a Nibco press valve actually sealed?
Two things do the work. When the joint is properly crimped, a distinctive "N" witness mark shows on the outside of the fitting, so an inspector or a foreman can walk the line and see which joints were pressed. Second, the valve has the press leak-detection feature: an unpressed joint will weep visibly when the system is filled and tested rather than passing inspection and failing in a ceiling later. Press with the right jaw for the size and confirm the N mark on every joint before you close up.
3) Does a full port ball valve matter, or should I just use a standard port?
Full port means the ball bore matches the pipe ID, so an open PC-FP600A-LF adds effectively no restriction to the line. That is what you want on a main shutoff, a riser isolation, a pump suction, or any run where you are already tight on pressure drop. Standard port valves neck the flow down and are fine on a fixture branch or a low-flow takeoff where head loss doesn't decide anything. On sprinkler and HVAC work, full port is usually what the drawing calls for.
4) What pressure and temperature can a Nibco press ball valve handle?
Maximum service temperature is 250 degrees F, which covers domestic hot water and hydronic heating loops. On pressure, treat it as a 200 PSI valve for design purposes on this configuration. It is not a steam valve.
5) What are the seats and the ball made of on the Nibco PC-FP600A-LF?
Bronze body with bronze trim, a brass ball and stem, and reinforced PTFE seat rings. The stem is blowout-proof, so it cannot be driven out of the body under line pressure if someone leans on the handle. The body is dezincification resistant, which matters on domestic water with aggressive water chemistry where plain brass can lose zinc and fail at the wall.
6) Can I use press ball valves on a fire sprinkler or HVAC system, or is this only for domestic water?
The PC-FP600A-LF is listed for automatic sprinkler systems, commercial and residential plumbing, heating, HVAC, industrial and irrigation service. The 250 degree F service ceiling is what makes the heating and HVAC applications work. What it is not for is gas.
7) Why choose press ends over a solder or threaded ball valve on a copper system?
Press is a mechanical crimp, so there is no open flame on the job. On an occupied building, a hospital wing, a hotel floor or anywhere the hot work permit is the long pole, that alone decides it. It also goes in on wet lines where you cannot get a solder joint to take, and a two-second press replaces heating a 2 inch bronze body. The tradeoff is tooling: you need a press tool plus the correct jaw or chain for each size, so for one valve on an existing soldered system a sweat valve may still be the simpler call. On a repeat install across a building, press wins on labor.
8) Does the Nibco PC-FP600A-LF come with a handle or do I order that separately?
It ships with a carbon steel standard lever handle. Quarter turn, and the handle position tells you at a glance whether the valve is open or shut, which is what you want on an isolation valve a tech has to find in a hurry. Nibco offers other handle options on the press ball valve family if you need something different, but the standard lever is what this configuration carries.
