1) What does Ftg x Prs mean on the Nibco PC606-2 45-degree elbow?
Ftg x Prs means one end is a fitting (street) end and the other is a press end. The fitting end is sized to slip INTO the cup of another copper fitting, and the press end accepts copper tube and gets crimped with a press tool. So the PC606-2 lets you turn 45 degrees straight off another fitting without cutting in a short nipple of tube. If you need tube on both sides of the bend, you want a press x press 45, not the street configuration.

5) Press fittings or solder for a copper 45 elbow, which should I use?
Press is the no-flame option. The Nibco Press System joint is crimped with a press tool and jaw instead of torched, so there is no hot work permit, no fire watch and no draining the line dry to get a joint to take. That is why it wins on occupied buildings, tenant retrofits and ceiling work. Soldering still makes sense where you have no press tool on the truck or no jaw in the size you need, since the tool and jaws are the real cost of going press. The PC606-2 street end still slips into a standard copper fitting cup either way.
6) How do I know a Nibco press joint was actually crimped properly?
Look for the N. When a Nibco Press System fitting is correctly crimped, a witness mark shaped like an N is clearly visible on the pressed end. That is the visual check an inspector or a foreman can make down the line without pressure testing every joint, and it is how you spot a socket someone walked past with the tool.
7) Can Nibco press copper fittings be installed underground or buried?

Nibco supplies pressing tools, jaws and chains as part of the Press System. Larger sizes, 2-1/2, 3 and 4 inch, are typically pressed with a chain rather than a standard jaw. Confirm your tool covers the sizes on the job before you order the fittings.
10) Is a 45-degree copper elbow the same as a 1/8 bend?
Same thing. The PC606-2 is a 45 degree elbow, which the trade and the fitting tables also call a 1/8 bend, since 45 degrees is one eighth of a full circle. If a drawing or takeoff calls for a 1/8 bend in copper, this is the fitting. A 90 degree elbow is the 1/4 bend.
