Nibco 9082780PC – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What do the two ends of the Nibco PC607-3 elbow connect to?
The PC607-3 is a press by female thread (Prs x F) 90-degree elbow. One end presses onto copper tube with a press tool and jaw; the other is a female NPT thread that takes a male threaded nipple, valve, or adapter. So it's the fitting you use where a pressed copper run has to transition to a threaded connection, like a valve, gauge, or appliance stub.
2) What sizes does the Nibco PC607-3 press x female elbow come in?
Four size combinations: 1/2 inch, 1 inch, 1/2 x 3/8 inch, and 1/2 x 3/4 inch. The reducing versions let you press 1/2 inch copper and thread into a 3/8 or 3/4 inch female connection without adding a separate bushing.
3) Can I use this press elbow on potable water lines?
Yes. The wrot copper press elbow is lead-free and certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN-61 for potable water, with third party certification to UPC. It's used in residential and commercial potable, hot, chilled and process water systems.
4) What pressure and temperature can the Nibco Press System elbow handle?
Rated 200 psi CWP over a temperature range of -20 F to 250 F. That covers domestic water, hydronic heating and chilled water loops. For anything above those limits, it's the wrong fitting.
5) How do I know a Nibco press fitting is actually crimped correctly?
When the joint is properly pressed, a raised "N" witness mark is visible on the fitting. That's your visual confirmation on inspection walk that the joint was pressed and not just slipped together. You still need the matching Nibco Press System tool and jaw for the size you're pressing.
6) Can Nibco press copper fittings be buried underground?
Yes, the Press System fittings are approved for underground installation. Follow Nibco's Press System installation instructions for burial and support requirements.
7) Is this elbow OK for fire sprinkler or irrigation work, or just plumbing?
System use covers automatic sprinkler systems, commercial and residential plumbing, heating, HVAC, and irrigation. The same 200 psi / -20 to 250 F limits apply across all of those.
8) Do I need a separate reducing coupling to go from 1/2 inch copper to a 3/4 inch threaded connection?
No. Order the 1/2 x 3/4 inch PC607-3 (MPN 9082570PC) and the reduction is built into the elbow, press on the 1/2 inch side, 3/4 inch female thread on the other. There's also a 1/2 x 3/8 inch version, MPN 9082556PC, for small drops like fixture supplies.
9) What copper alloy are these Nibco press elbows made from?
Wrot copper, ASTM B75 alloy C12200, and dezincification resistant. Because it's copper rather than a brass alloy, there's no dezincification concern on aggressive water, and the material is recyclable for projects tracking sustainable material credits.
